Another one worth it. Maybe not 60k though.

Extended Jeeps have an interesting history. They don't sell that well when new. But after they aren't available folks want them. This is what happened with the CJ-6 and the CJ-8. The original unlimited, two door version wasn't that big a hit. They put four doors on it and it got popular. The Gladiator is just a beefed up version.

I looked at the Gladiator and decided that other than an extra set of doors it offered nothing over my CJ-8. And, I know where a CJ-6 is sitting waiting for some TLC.

Not a fan of the Gladiator at all and I just came from a 2-door Jeep JK after nearly a decade of driving it. I'm surprised there is even a market for a hybrid Jeep/truck. I MUCH prefer the Tacoma over that. All variants of the Tacoma too. If you want a pickup truck, then buy a damn pickup truck. I'd be willing to bet that they won't even be making those anymore within 3-5 years.

When we sold our Taco Pro last year we were planning on getting a Gladiator. But after seeing how much longer they are and the serious recalls already happening on the redesigned Wrangler, we decided against it. Might look at them again in a few years after they get all the kinks worked out. Will keep our other Taco for now but if they made a two door Gladiator then I don’t think I could wait...E111D6C8-0334-4FAB-90A7-EC9FE4946C9A.jpg

Not to mention that in a few years Hyundai will probably own the company. Just look at how many owners Chrysler had...

If there wasn't a hefty price tag I would've traded my Taco for one.......

Pulled the numbers today from Jeep and Toyota websites: Prices were starting for each model.
    Jeep
    SPORT $31,842
    SPORT S $34,218
    OVERLAND $36,897
    NORTH EDITION. $41,619

    Toyota
    SR $26,050
    SR5 $27,828
    SPORT $32,725
    OFF ROAD $34,000
    LIMITED $38,790
    PRO $43,960

Seems Jeep is in the ball park on pricing.

I looked at the Gladiator last fall and ended up buying a Tacoma TRD OR access cab.
    My thoughts:

    • I have a very nice built Jeep TJ, so I didn’t need/want that from a pickup.
    • I didn’t need a back seat...access cab has enough interior room and the 6 ft. bed.
    • Gladiator does needs 35s to look right.
    • Tacoma looks okay on stock tire size, and better one size up.
    • I do like that Gladiator has the additional option of a soft-top. Sunny day, scenic drive with top down = awesome.
    • Tacoma's transmission is my least favorite part of the truck.
    • Tacoma’s price was right for a nicely equipped TRD OR.
    • My TJ and another Jeep I use to have, I think they went cheap and used plastics that they knew would deteriorate in 10 years.
    • I will assume that the Tacoma will require less repairs longterm as I keep my vehicles.

Nuff said! Tricked out Gladiator IS sick. Diesel even better.

I wish otherwise, but Tacoma reliability has been tanking from the days of ole.

I would buy a Rubicon in a heartbeat, if it costs the same as a Tacoma and was made by Toyota. Otherwise, they are still Jeeps made by Fiat....
You remember Fiat. They were the precursor to the famous Yugos.
I Just remember that whenever My loins are stirred by a Chrysler product.

    /sarcasm on
You mean the quality of fuel pumps, paint, smooth transmissions, proper fueled levels from the factory?
    /sarcasm off

I don't like the looks of the Gladiator. My wife has a Grand Cherokee with the hemi that has been pretty good for us. A couple of recalls dealing with electrical to the lighted mirror and a fuel pump relay. It is in the same status as Toyota. They are recalling the relay, but they don't have a new design yet to fix the issue. Toyota has been a good brand for years.

Jeeps are perfect for that midlife crisis guy who wants to just now start getting into off roading. PERFECT.

Good to see the Jeep shit talk is still as prevalent as the Tacoma hate (and TW in particular for some reason) is on the Jeep boards lol.
