The "rubber" seals that follow the border of each window on my 2011 look... Sun damaged or burned? They are "bleached" and spotted.

One of my buddies commented on them and said "you better make sure they don't start leaking".

I'm not sure if this is normal or not. Has anyone replaced these? I don't want water going places it doesn't need to.. haha.

If anything it would look better if they were all black and not... spotted looking.

Edit, this is the only photo I have tight now, I'll take another soon but this shows the strip I am talking about.

I remember reading about this on here once before. Almost looks as if mold is growing on the rubber stripping.. I think its normal..

Can it be "repaired" so it doesn't look like sheet?

If the seals aren’t cracked or broken I wouldn’t worry to much about it. You could paint them or replace them. Edit: how the f!!k do you get that green f!!kin’ mold off without killing the rubber? I’m having little to no luck with this

I'll have to look closer and see if I see cracks. They definitely look "dry rotted", not sure how else to discribe it.

    *Damn phone correcting shit

I don't remember what the fix was.. You might try cleaning it with some simple green, or maybe some isopropyl alcohol. Not sure either of those would fully get rid of it though..

I've got some simple green extreme automotive, I'll try that.

Please do report back! Would love to see if that takes care of it. Pretty sure I have this on my truck as well, I just don't pay attention to it since I have a camper/shell

Oh, F, no. Edit: I guess I’ll just drive around with green tires for the next eight years

Shit, Man. I don’t know. Maybe it’s “The Blob” coming to reclaim the Planet. Resistance is futile. If you can find out a fix for this mold problem I’d like to hear it

I have been searching around on the forum and haven't seen any solution or much mention of this. I'd like to know as well as I have the same thing going on.

Here is what worked for me. I did this on both the back window seal and the side window seals.
    • Apply tape to paint and glass to protect from scratching.
    • Lightly wet sand with 1000 grit sandpaper, then with 2000 grit.
    • Wipe on 1 or 2 coats of Penetrol.
It is not a permanent fix, but should last a year or two before having to repeat. I did my seals about 28 months ago and it is time to touch them up again. Regularly using something like 303 Aerospace Protectant might extend the time between repairs.

can't replace just the rubber. it's encapsulation that's made onto the window unit. The whole back glass assembly would need to get replaced. Aftermarket brands don't fit worth a crap, btw and you'll drop at least 500 on a OEM slider.

I assume the issue is from UV damage, so yes a uv blocker would help
