In the scenario of a mass murder/shooter, you have someone that is going against a defenseless crowd, it generally takes awhile before anyone is shooting back. These guys could reload under little to no pressure. In a home defense situation where someone is shooting at you, you might NOT be able to change magazines.

Edit: In the mass shooter scenario, you have a person who's thoroughly planned how they're going to murder as many people as possible, they have those magazines on their body, they know where they are, and they've practiced changing magazines...

In the home defense situation, the expectation is, you're dead asleep at 2 am and wake up to the sound of someone breaking a window and crawling in, you grab the closest weapon to you and hope its got more ammunition than the intruder, you can't wake up, strap on your tactical vest loaded with 5 - 10 round magazines, and then confront the threat.

Notwithstanding the fact that my rights should not be stripped due to the actions of others, trying to push the NFA process on every grandfathered gun would be such an overwhelming bureaucratic process that it would wind up as one of the biggest flops in history.

Better hurry that will be next on the list. They will say it to quite, then new laws. If you carry a crossbow you have to scream, if you cant scream you have to carry a blow horn.

I just look at the cases like the one with the 90 year old guy who took down someone breaking in with one shot from his shotgun. If a 90 year old doesn't need dozens of bullets why would someone else? You just usually don't see these home defense shootings in which there was an exchange of dozens and dozens of bullets. Sure could you have 6 people break in all with illegal fully auto weapons and 30 round mags? Perhaps but it would seem fairly unlikely and if you start arming for slim chance theoretical situations you could probably justify nearly any kind of weapon.

I'm open to either side of the argument it just doesn't seem like there's a great argument one way or the other on that particular issue. It seems people just want them. Which is fine. I don't need a lift but wanted one. I just think don't there's much of a need component to the argument.

I mean our local police and state troopers both carry AR15's in their cars but they even have small magazines.

Awesome, so now whoever wants banned weapon will go get it on black market, so therefore criminals will make more money.

Wake up people. Douchebags who want to kill people will do it anyhow no matter if guns are easily accessible or not.

As far as I know the shooter in Connecticut was 20 years old. Legally he cannot purchase a gun, so he stole them from his mom. Thats parent stupidity we all will pay for. My guns are locked up in a safe and only me and my wife knows the combination...

How this will prevent such event from happening again? Lets say new ban is in effect, parent has legally owned and grandfathered assault weapons, they are not locked up, so wacko son can get them and shoot people again?

How is restricting firearm sale helps anything?

Guns don't kill people, stupid people kill people.

We cannot create law which would make stupidity illegal
