Here are the state gun laws for SC

    http://www.sled.sc.gov/SCStateGunLaws1.aspx?MenuID=CWP

No need to separate ammo from the gun and there are plenty of state law exceptions that allow you to have your pistol in your car without a CWP

I’m in the same exact situation. I planed around MD and am also going to Myrtle beach. I picked up a horneday pistol safe for the last leg of the trip and for storage in the beach house. Curious and looking into the laws for storage in vehicle. If/when I find info I’ll post up here and tag ya.

    From my link above

SECTION 16-23-20. Unlawful carrying of handgun; exceptions.

It is unlawful for anyone to carry about the person any handgun, whether concealed or not, except as follows, unless otherwise specifically prohibited by law:
    9) a person in a vehicle if the handgun is:

    (a) secured in a closed glove compartment, closed console, closed trunk, or in a closed container secured by an integral fastener and transported in the luggage compartment of the vehicle; however, this item is not violated if the glove compartment, console, or trunk is opened in the presence of a law enforcement officer for the sole purpose of retrieving a driver's license, registration, or proof of insurance. If the person has been issued a concealed weapon permit pursuant to Article 4, Chapter 31, Title 23, then the person also may secure his weapon under a seat in a vehicle, or in any open or closed storage compartment within the vehicle's passenger compartment;

    Also

SECTION 23-31-230. Carrying concealed weapons between automobile and accommodation.

Notwithstanding any provision of law, any person may carry a concealable weapon from an automobile or other motorized conveyance to a room or other accommodation he has rented and upon which an accommodations tax has been paid.

That is an interesting way to word the law.

Obviously, it is worded like that to allow for (or to show) the person is a visitor.

Playing devil's advocate - what happens if one is a resident, without a carry permit? Does this law apply to them as well?

In Maryland, as @JimBeam posted above,

Handguns are to be in a case, unloaded, in an area of the vehicle inaccessable to the driver/primary occupants. Ammunition is also to be kept in a separate container, in a separate location. UNLESS you have a Maryland carry permit or some other designation (law enforcement) that would waive those conditions

This is my understanding as a Maryland resident without a permit. @danteisme

I’m planning on moving to NC in a few years, and since they’re much less strict than NJ I thought I’d let my retired Leo ccw permit here expire. But with all these different state laws to consider I think I’ll just maintain my NJ ccw if I’m able to living out of state since HR218 covers me everywhere. Would make travel and trips back up to see family easier.

Thanks at the time of posting hadn’t gone thru the link. Appreciate it.
Also we are staying in north Myrtle cherry grove. Never stayed in actual Myrtle. My wife’s fam went there for about 10 years in a big 9 bedroom house on the beach... too much $$$ for me so we know the area up there and found a house 3 blocks off the beach for 1500 for the week with 3 bedrooms two with Kings and one for my kids so for the 4 of us and my parents the price was right.

ten days have gone by and noone has sparked up anything in here!? Im curious to know what your thoughts are on training.

First, my background as a LEO often makes me think a little bit differently than most. Within the last year or so, It has become apparent to me, that many folks out there go get their CCW permit, purchase a firearm, start carrying that firearm, and SOMETIMES go the range and punch some paper at 5 feet away, but aren't actually familiar or comfortable with that particular weapon (which is fine and their constitutional right to do so lol) The point of this question isn't so shit on anyone, and it isn't to question anyone's ability.

But do any of you actually train with the weapon(s) that you choose to carry or keep bedside for home protection? If so, what is it that you do for training? Or, are you someone who occasionally target shoots and collects firearms because you just like them?
