Yeah, was going to ask you after I saw the monkey’s reaction. I LOATHE baking. I eat baking, I no bake. I need to invest the time to learn it.

May next goal is homemade pasta. I’m attempting gnocchi tomorrow, so prepare yourself for glamour shots. I figure it’s an entry level, but we will see.

I used to bake a lot more than I do now. Before there were GF options readily available for pizza dough and focaccia I made everything from scratch. Just got lazy and went with the store bought things for a while now. This makes me want to put a little more effort into stuff again.

One of my favs. And with a whole loaf of yummy garlic bread to eat I had to keep the Italian theme going....and probably will until the bread runs out.

Wife and I got one off our wedding registry. It's a larger Cuisinart one that is also a toaster, regular oven, and toaster oven. We use it more than our oven now I'd say. For doing small things for 1 or 2 people the speed of not only cooking things faster but not having to wait for a large oven to preheat can't really be beat. With GF stuff it actually gets it crispy instead of just warm and soggy, which is real nice.

Downside is it is yet another appliance to add to our pile (hello instantpot we use three times a year)

Very versatile tool to have.. you can make everything from "hard boiled" eggs to stuffed porkchops in them.

I've been slacking at keeping up with my own thread but there's some good stuff in here

i'm not usually a fan of gimmick-y appliances and, yes, storage space is at a premium. just can't decide if its something i'd use often or just once in a while. i like the thought that oven stuff can be made in it - i don't usually turn my oven on at all in the summer as the residual heat just heats up my whole apartment
i shoulda figured we'd have a dedicated thread  figured i'd start in here with you guys since GF stuff can be kinda weird to cook certain things.

    @MTgirl

We have one….well, my 18yo son has one and uses it multiple times a week for everything. It is an Ultrean brand that we got off of Amazon. I think we’ve had it for 1-2 years, can’t remember exactly but he uses it often and it has done well.

Copy/paste from the air fryer thread:
Ours gets used several times each week and just stays on the counter.

If you're on the fence, think about what you typically would use the oven for, or the microwave but would like it crispier (looking at you, reheated pizza). If there's enough things, you'll probably use it enough to justify it.

Funny you say use the microwave but want crispy….I could have used the air fryer tonight for the taquitos I ate for dinner. But, I’m old school I guess. Microwave to get them thawed, then I use a little oil in a skillet to crisp up. My son makes the taquitos in the air fryer straight from freezer.

But I have no idea how to use the thing

One more point I'll bring up on an air fryer, this post reminded me of, it's basically a small convection oven. If your oven has a convection setting already, might be smaller and more convenient but redundant a bit.

Also c'mon, everyone knows the best way to reheat pizza is in a skillet ;)

    i was gonna say...pizza...
    always on a pizza stone
    summer on the grill
winter in the oven and turn on the broiler so the cheese gets the little brown crispy bits
leftovers reheated in a skillet with a lid and about a TBSP of water
gooey cheese and crispy crust every time

I don’t knock people for using them. They’re convenient, use less energy than an oven, and can be healthier (some of the stuff I see people do is why other countries make fun of us).

It’s not a tool I have use for and I can’t justify the expense, but it makes sense to save time/money/space.

So, there’s my useless, unhelpful opinion

Let me just say.. Ore-Ida Tater Tots.. which are GF... take 45 minutes in the oven... 12 minutes in the Air Fryer and way better than from the oven.
