What’s everyone running for GMRS radios, such a large selection to choose from.

love the setup, unfortunately in Canada we are restricted to 2watts of power basically forcing us to only use handheld units.

I'm genuinely curious as to who would know? Not to say that I am planning on willingly doing so but who would ever check radio type/wattage?

I think the issue lies with no Canadian retailers for the more powerful radios and from what I read unless more people in your group have the more powerful radios they are kinda useless, sure I can transmit to someone 25km away but they don’t have enough power to respond.

I've been using the Cobra ACXT645 handhelds for 3 years, after seeing @Joe23 and @Norilsk with them: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-Cobra-OUTDOOR-WalkieTalkie-2-Way-Radios-35-Mile-Range-ACXT645-6067/

There's a newer ACXT1035R model with more advertised range: https://www.amazon.ca/Cobra-Walkie-Talkie-ACXT1035R-FLT/dp/B019RIP24E/

I have the Midland GXT1000 handhelds. I think they are rated at 5w. Bought in the US but available in Canada. Costco Ontario currently has 3 packs of GMRS radios now.

I've been looking at some of the Midland 15W or 40W truck mount units. I doubt anyone would be able to detect that you have it. And doubt that CSIS will be dropping out of helicopters because you have too many watts.

I have a pair of Vertex Standard VX-261 UHF 5W handhelds. Went with UHF as Maine is heavily forested. They work well. I think Motorola bought them out.

I'm fairly doubtful that it is correctly set up. it was a hand-me-down from a job i did a few weeks back. know nothing about it other than the fellow saying "yeah it's all set up ready to go"
