    Soon to come.
Okay im new to this forum but i have had my truck for a while now. Around my hometown and on my college campus a 6" lift on a 2nd gen Taco is starting to look almost stock. Ive finally decided im going to raise mine 3 more inches if i can find a somewhat affordable way. Body lift is out of the question. And Ive looked at King and fabtech coilovers mostly but theyre pretty costly. Does anyone know of a good way to do this? While also getting a good performance ride?

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on trying to make your truck what you want it.

    But, you wrote:

May I thoughtfully recommend against engaging in "truck height competition?"

You want your truck to stand out and be your own - and that's a good thing. But you also want a "good performance ride" and presumably a safe rig.

Isn't there some other way to make your truck stand out?

There are disadvantages to increased height - decreased stability both ON the road, and especially OFF the road. Nobody wants to roll their truck.

While a fair number of folks will do a 1" body lift to help with tire fitment issues, a 3" body lift is pushing it, and may potentially lead to issues where the body becomes separated from the frame in an accident. (Yes, reports vary on this. But it's worth considering.)

A 6" tacoma is already a capable rig and can run a tire that'll give you pretty much any off road capability you want - especially once you start trimming away sheet metal. Once you're going past 35" tires, well, you're going to be stressing the stock axles pretty bad and it's time to start looking at upgrading those as well.

So, if despite my better advice, you're going to go this way no matter what, probably the best way is to combine a number of approaches.

Presumably you've already got a 6" drop bracket lift.

If you add a coilover with a longer spring or more preload in the front, that'll add an inch or two to the front.

In the back - I'm guessing you may already be running a 3" block. You don't want to increase that. So you're looking at custom arched springs, perhaps with a shackle reversal.

    Then a 1" body lift.

But, like I said, lots of other ways to make a truck stand out. Custom paint job... Bitchin' over-the-top stereo... Tuned cat-back exhaust and intake to give you the engine sound you want... Custom grill and HID projector headlamps... etc...

+1. Will make it stand out more than anything. But if you already have a DB lift, add some ICON coilovers. And get some 6" or more leafs for the rear - I dont wanna see you driving around with 6" blocks like a chevy haha

add ICONs or Kings to be a badass around campus. Or Bilstein set on the highest setting (not sure but close to 3") would be the cheapest, if possible (pretty sure it is possible)

btw I get tons of college girls checking out me and my ride and I'm only 3" lift. It probably has to do with the armor and exhaust more then anything. Also, we dont have as many "bro hoes" up here - just real badass country hardcore wheelin get shit done chicks (the real hot out of your current scope type but idk).

I wouldnt say its competition more of a preference. And trying to make my 35s not rub, ive already trimmed enough off. But thanks for the help everyone. Ive been checking out the icon coilovers. Anyone know the best place to get them from though?

Really? I've seen maybe 3 lifted tacomas on campus.

EDIT: with yours being one of those 3
