Go Rhino Sport Bar 2.0 install lessons learned

i am going a similar route, but was considering installing the bar on top of the retrax side rails, instead of under like you did. I was under the impression that going underneath the rails might cause some leaks in the bed. If you’re still around, could you let me know? I’ll be installing my stuff the week after Christmas when I have some free time. Thanks!

 

well I ended up going underneath instead of on top and everything turned out perfectly fine! No issues and so far no leaks as of yet that I can see.

I partially disconnected my OEM Toyota tonneau, which is kind of thick, to see if the Go Rhino 915000T base plates would fit around them. The Go Rhino base channel is tall enough to accommodate the tonneau, but the tonneau's forward section latch obstructs the Go Rhino base underneath the tonneau when it is still secured to the bed. Obviously, I can notch the base plate to clear, if necessary.

For reference here is an image of the exact tri-fold OEM tonneau that came with my truck.

I will be doing the standard mounting in which I drill the bed rails from the top. Is there anything to take into account first since the entire bed box is plastic except for the fenders that are bolted onto them? For example: is there a particular left-right bias atop the rail for which I need to shoot when marking for drilling?

 

I just picked one of these up for $250 and then realized you need to drill the bed to install it (I saw a good deal and jumped on it without doing any research).

TruXedo TruXport tonneau cover currently installed.
Since the tonneau cover rails will sit inside the sports bar channels, would the clamps that hold the tonneau cover in place be sufficient instead of drilling the bed, or would this be a bit too sketchy?

 

• Where did you find a Go Rhino Sport Bar 2.0 for $250?
• I'm guessing depending on the tonneau clamps to hold the sport bar on would be beyond unsafe.

 

It was through a local auction site in my area. I was shocked to find all the pieces were present and the hardware was unopened. Only issue was 2 scratches on one of the parts which I can live with.
