Those magnetic business signs and stuff always scratch people paint. I would assume these would do the same since they are actually getting brushed up against by things while off-roading. Not nearly as bad of course. Perhaps because they have more surface area, they won’t be as prone to moving? How ironic though, a product mean to keep scratches off your truck, could cause them. They do look kinda cool with the right color scheme though.

 

The instructions are to wipe the surface down before putting them on, as you should do with anything going onto your paint.
My experience with these when helping Matt on a template, they don't move easily unless you 'peel' them.

Obviously you want the paint clean before installing. Metal is porous not a perfectly smooth surface, and a magnet on paint isn’t going to seal dirt and debris from getting between skin and paint surface. Thus creating an opportunity for scratches. Whether it’s from wind beating on the skins while driving or branches or whatever brushing against it while you off-road. Sure it may take a while for this to happen but at some point it will. Just saying for someone who might be interest in the product but overlooked this fact. Would love to hear from the hundreds who have already purchased and would give an honest review of the product.

 

I bought a set for my for 19 Tacoma and love the product. It was easy to apply, took about 10 minutes after everything was wiped down and clean. Tried it out in Anza Borrego over the weekend and it performed as described. Had numerous thick pinstriping lines that would have marked the paint but were on the panels instead. There are some that manage to find the gaps of coverage but I'd rather work to buff out 5% of the truck then the whole body. Had two of my neighbors come down and look at it before and after, they immediately placed an order. One of the few mods that have given me instant gratification. Hopefully the tires and wheels I am putting on it today will be the 2nd.
