What size awning is that one? I’m going with your setup. Looks great!

Speaking of quick release awnings, I posted this on the GFC forums but might as well put it here too if anyone is interested in using the Front Runner quick release awning mounts.

McMaster sells a u channel, McMaster-Carr 6, that fits perfectly inside the front runner quick release mounts. I got a 1/2 bar and cut off 2 2" sections with a band saw then drill 3 holes in the back to mount to the gfc t slots and the drill the top and bottom to match the front runner mount. Seems to be pretty sturdy and only costs like $20-25 if you have the mounts already.

    Hey all,

If one of you could get me some dims of the triangular space frame structures on the V2 sides for 2nd/3rd gen short bed model it'd be much appreciated. I'm curious if they're the same size/triangular shape as my longbed V2. Looks like they might be, and the longbed structure is just positioned a little farther back.

    Thanks in advance

Oh this is an interesting option, is it a single milled piece?

no, I think its a flat piece of steel, but bent and tig welded.

He gave me the bend file, and I have a piece of stainless that I was planning on using. I am not setup for tig (nor do I know how yet) but I have some friends that could do a couple tacks for me, and I will fill the rest of the corners/gaps with silicone/rtv. Or that is my plan when I get there.. Ive had my camper for 2 years, but not there yet. ;)

Oh going back and looking it's obviously bent sheet, idk what part I was thinking about when I mentioned milling it... Do you have a way to bend it? I don't have access to a way that makes money sense, but I could weld em if you can bend em

I was just going to put it in the vise and use 2 adjustable wrenches. I suppose you could also use a sheet metal clamp locking pliers?

When you dont have the right tools, you get creative haha.

Used a mallet and a block of wood to get this to bend. I have another piece of this stainless was what i was going to use for my version of the drip rails. But instead of riveting the corners, ill have a friend put a couple tacks to hold things together

I put them on mine. He was running a sale when I bought them (and he's currently running a 20% off sale through the end of the month..."NOSLEEP" is the discount code). $120 is totally worth it when you consider the time (I'd likely spend a few hours minimum fabbing something), the powder coating cost, and it comes with the fasteners.

Ooo thanks for the heads up, that might just push it over the edge for me. Anyone got a picture of them on a V2?

Do you find that they're worth getting?

Wondering if it's worth the expense...I can clearly see on my truck where the drainage runs down my window and leaves spots from the hard water. But I've never had an issue with water dripping into my backseat, whether camped or otherwise. Maybe because I live in SoCal so rain isn't really an issue for the most part anyways...

I'm in Reno so not much rain here either but there have been plenty of times in the past year that I can see them doing their thing and dumping the rainwater or snowmelt between the rain channels on the roof instead of on the back windows.

I ordered them after our first thunderstorm with the GFC on the truck. May have waited to buy them if I didn't have kids that wouldn't appreciate the drips but the $100 was totally worth it to me.

    Gotcha

Yeah I definitely see and notice the drip rails doing their job...just can't remember a time when i've seen it drip directly into the backseat. Don't usually mess around with the doors in the rain, and if it's at a campsite, either the tent is up or i had to drive to get there, so the rails were already drained before parking. I guess I'll hold off until I see a personal need for them. I'm sure people in wetter climates probably see more use from it.
