Finally got the rear glass tinted in the GFC. Went with the Llumar Pinnacle 15 film. Makes it very hard to see what is in the bed and still let's me see through when driving. Best part is that when sitting on tailgate and sun is overhead, it is now much cooler and shaded under the rear panel.

I've only used the soft latex toppers on top of foam (not memory foam) mattress'. I think I'd prefer a foam base, maybe two different levels of firmness and latex on the very top. I wouldn't mess with the two layer GFC foam system much yet. Try a topper first, 1" soft would be really thin when compressed. We've slept for years on the 3" yellow foam with a topper.

Is anyone powering a portable fridge with only one battery without solar? If so, how long can you go without starting the truck to recharge the battery?

I’ve ran my Dometic CFX28 set at 34°F, opening it a lot, semi warm product, and a 12v fan for more than 12hours on my XPower Group 31 start battery. Never did drop under 12.3Vdc.
I usually don’t stay in one place for more than a night so the truck gets drove each day.

But yeah, a lot of factors will come into play with that question.

I’m happy to have found this thread, and support group for those affected by anticipation syndrome, from waiting months for delivery.

I’m sorry to hear of the trouble some people have had with early versions of hardware and fabric not living up to expectations, but love seeing the interior customizations, and plan to adopt many of the ideas in this thread.

I’m curious if there is consensus whether changing or adding rear leaf springs is going to be necessary with the added weight of the camper. I have a Pro, which I believe has softer rear springs anyway.

If you’ve been down this route, or got your camper and are on the fence about the handling of your truck, please let me know.

    Thanks

Can’t speak directly to Taco’s but I haven’t noticed a significant difference in ride handling with the camper. As long as you have the sway in the front you shouldn’t notice much difference on road. Off road is about the same, but if you’re a hot head when you see dirt then I would highly recommend a more progressive rate. OEM’s tend to use a 4 leaf pack that is harsh once you break into the overload pack which is what you want when towing, but not really what you want when off road. Deavers or OME are in my future precisely due to this issue, you get a lot more donkey kicking in the rear because you break into the overload pack and bump stops more often with the GFC than without.

I had Deaver add a leaf, it was needed and well worth it. I just had 5100s on when I had a flippac and it destroyed my leafs, so when I got the GFC I was already behind the curve and hitting the bumps on everything. Couple hours and a couple hundred bucks at Deaver and it’s a world of difference now

    Thanks for the tip/idea @ervandew!
Chopped each small panel down 2” this morning so I can get better ventilation and the dog can sleep on the bottom bunk now and I can still see him and he will know I’m upstairs.
I probably should have went 3” on each side after laying in there.
I’m thinking this will help keep the downstairs cooler too once I get the fan installed. (SOON! :))

On a side note. The MaxxFan Mini came in. Played around with the bed panel for I don’t know what real reason.
Waiting for the local fab shop to finish my bracket I’m having made.
Then it’s just finding time to cut a hole, seal it, bolt it in and wire. Easy huh?

Paid a shop that did the rest of my truck. They cut it perfectly to fit without removing anything.

The fabric is in there believe it or not. I just stuck my phone up and snapped a pic but I was surprised how it all lays to the sides. There is a good bit of room up there with the 2” mattresses in the center section.

The bracket I’m getting made is going to be 1/8” or so thick S.S., 3” wide picture frame shaped.
I’m going to drill holes and through bolt/nut it on with the nuts on the inside.
I’m not 100% positive I can trust the honeycomb plastic if I just nutted the bolts with washers on the inside. I want it to support it.
Just running the supplied screws that come with the fan into that plastic roof would be a big no-no. They won’t tighten enough, then I’ll be relying on sealant to hold it on. I tried running one into a bed panel as a test. Since it’s “hollowish” there isn’t enough for a screw to hold on to on just the outside shell.

I was surprised honestly. I just shut it up like normal.
The new 2” isn’t that comfy though but I have shut a couple sleeping bags up there with all the panels in.

Going from the OG plastic-ey tent to the new stuff is a game changer for saving space. Closes up way easier for me now.

I kept my OG tent though, even with a busted snap. I think that material will keep more warm air in during the winter months. The new stuff is way more breathable

Stoked to see how you put it in, I am really close to doing the same.

I put another thermo-meter in my cab to see the differences in temps

Oh also we’re going to make a template so more of the plates I’m having made can be re-done if anyone else likes my idea and wants to do the same. I can get you one. Just let me get mine in first. Haha.
It’s nothing special as I described above and couple easily be made in a garage with a drill and grinder. I would have made it myself but fabricating shit while street parked is a total pita.

I dig it and appreciate it. I just put another sensor in my cab, 103F in the cab and only 87F in the GFC. But I’m also parking facing due west so that may skew it

I hope your fan install goes smoothly. I hadn’t thought about the backwards install until I saw the drifter thread someone posted in here. My initial thought is that we can’t drive with the fan open. I’m still going to consider one of those passive marine vents and see if that plus your fan install keeps things moving inside when all closed up.
