Update on mine. I sprayed mine back in March when rust was leaking all over my truck. We've had a rainy summer and have yet to see any remnants of rust in the front tube. Rear aluminum tube should be mailed out to me soon, but the front is complicated as I feared, so I will probably re-spray before winter this year and get all the fill ports of the main frame too as preventative. Fluid film by far is the superior inhibitor compared to everything else, including boeshield which is what GFC recommends. https://forums.mtbr.com/fat-bikes/anti-corrosion-product-shootout-1073581.html

Scope out this guy on IG, he seems to like the Vinyl option, plus it lets you undo it very easily if you change you mind. Just a thought.

Sorry for the naive question, but what are the fill ports on the main frame?

There's allen head bolts along the side. Unscrew those and put the straw filler from the can in there and go to town. It's how you replenish rust inhibitors in the interior of the main dom frame.

Thanks! That does help and solve most of my concerns. Much appreciated. Still concerned about its durability in high desert areas, but I’m mostly optimistic.

Checking in to see if others are experiencing this problem. Every morning I wake up having to wipe down a combination of moisture, condensation, and water accumulation from one corner of the GFC. It always leaves a line of drops along the window and down the rear passenger side door. IMG_2494.jpg IMG_2493.jpg Apologies for the poor image quality.

You say every morning, is that after the tent has been open or closed all night? I get water dripping down from same spot (whichever corner sits lower). Usually for a couple of days after some rain, figure it's water that has gotten into the front tube and is slowly working its way out. If the tent has been open, probably water in the extrusion that is trying to find a way out. Don't think there's a fix for that but it'd be nice to come up with some kind of deflector to keep that drip off the vehicle.

Yeah, good question. The water is dripping down just as you describe without the tent being open the night before. It's been over a month since I last had it open. I thought that it's morning condensation collecting on the underside of the platform. I was considering adding an edge to channel the water, but I don't think that will solve the problem.

I'm still waiting on my GFC and this may not apply. Would it make any difference if the rear of the vehicle and camper is lower than the front.

It might narrow down where the water is coming from. If it started coming out by the rear hinge, I'd think it was water still in the extrusion from when the tent was open. But if it still dripped out the front, I'd go with the front tube.

This all makes sense to me. The truck is level, but I think water is entering/exiting the front tube. I will remove the front screws and try draining and will report back.

While we're on the topic of water, anyone have any tricks/tips for how to clean and dry the front window of the GFC? I can get to some of the rear glass with my hand via the trucks rear window while I'm inside on the back seat, but not all of it.

That rear panel comes out pretty easily. Just take a flat head and pop open the screws up top. The bottom ones on the side you have to be careful not to drop, but if you pop them out from inside the camper and use your hand to gently pull them out works for me. The middle bottom one you can get from inside the cab with the rear cab window open. Once all the screws are out you just need to apply some tension to break the seal and them slide the panel out from driver/pass side. You can clean the panel and the whole rear of the truck pretty easily. Last time it took me about 5 minutes to take it all off.

Awesome! Thank you. I haven't removed the rear panel before, but it sounds straight forward and easy enough.

Has anyone found a car cover that would fit well with the gfc?

You would need to find one for a vehicle that is as long as your truck and a box. Maybe a minivan or a sprinter.

It looks like a suburban has similar measurements, Height and length. But I just need to order one and try it.

For those who have solar mounted where/how did you pass the wiring from outside to inside the camper?

I routed the wire in some loom around the front hinge, then back towards the camper frame and down between the bed and cab. From there you can route the wires wherever you need them to go.

Used some hose straps and GFC t-nuts to keep things in place on the extrusion.
