My garage is a couple of inches less than 7 feet tall, and I can fit my 3rd Gen Tacoma w/ GFC inside with about an 1 1/2 inches to spare. It's about 77" (or a bit less) from floor to the top of the GFC. I won't lift my Tacoma, or put on larger tires, because I like parking it in the garage, and I have not been interested enough in serious off-roading that much. I think I have room for some crossbars up there, but I don't have anything I want to carry on top now. The sharkfin does not interfere at all.

Thanks! That's real helpful. Sounds like stock there will be plenty of room for the gfc and a lift while still being under 84 inches!

I'm a 1st gen, but FWIW my GFC sits at about 84" with 35" tires and ~4" of lift in the rear. I either have to put a lot of weight in the back of the truck or let some air out of the tires to fit it easily in the garage.

Also, any idea how far the bottom of the tent is off the sharkfin? I figured if I could get that + the 6 inches the tent is I could get an exact height for how my truck sits now (with sagging suspension)

I'll take what I can get!

7/8" from the sharkfin to the bottom of the tent, and I measure the tent at 6 1/8" thick there. I've enjoyed my GFC--just need to use it more! I'm glad the hinge material will be replaced, although I have not had any problems with mine. PM me if you want to see one up close--I'm pretty close to you.

I have about 2.25" from a full ADS/HD leaf kit, 32s, and beef racks. My truck will no longer fit in my garage after moving from stock wheels to 32s. It barely cleared like 1.5" before moving to bigger wheels. I don't have my garage height readily accessible, but pretty sure it is standard.

I believe standard garages are 7 ft. Without the beef racks can you get in? I only plan to run solar, but I can put that on the cab if needed, and pull the truck out, throw on the racks and stuff on top then leave for my trip/weekend.

I just picked up my GFC back on 9/3. Total height was a concern for me as well. My 2019 Tacoma with 33's comes in at 6 feet and 5.5 inches, but that's with a 130 front and a 170 rear bumper. Also, about 400lbs of gear in when I measured. At 7 feet, I think you'll be fine.

What lift, if any, do you have on there? Sounds like you're compressed/weighed down a bit causing the lower overall height?

I just measured my garage it is a little shorter than 7' by 1.5 to 2 ". From ground to beef rack in the center of the GFC I am right at 7', the backend raises slightly so probably 7'1" at the rear rack. Without beef racks and if I had significant weight in my truck I could probably make it. Pulling in before moving to bigger tires but with beef racks was always worrisome.

Gotcha, thanks for measuring! Overall, it sounds like it will be close to 7 ft with a lift and tires but it can be done.

I have stock size tires on Fox lift of about 2 inches and the heavy dakar leaf kit in the rear and am just about 7' 1" on camper height.

If height is a concern, replacement bed rails and the Side Shooter antenna from @Anderson will save you 1/2-3/4". On a second gen, replacement rails are 3/4" thinner than the stock plastic rails, not sure how thick 3rd gen rails are.

One thing to take into consideration is if you have aftermarket parts. My measurements were affected by full steel bumpers and swingout plus a half loaded truck. So 7ft plus definitely makes sense depending on buildout.

That's true...lots of variables here depending on your advertised lift, load that's made to handle, and how much weight you have that might be sagging the rear.

I was thinking of getting a 3/2.5 lift that advertised to hold 0-440 lbs over stock. I imagine the gfc and armor already in there would be sagging that rear a bit. The other option is 450+ but I'm worried it would ride harsh when not loaded with camping gear. (Foam cell pro kit)

But doesn't the gfc just come at a fixed height that cleared the OEM shark fin anyways?

Edit: re read that, and you were saying to combine it with the aftermarket side rails.

i see you have a third gen. it will clear the sat fin, the bed sides are higher than second gen, and i think the bed rails may be better - or at least less 'height' from plastic. replacing them might net you some small gains in overall height but not muchIMG_2614.jpg

    Thanks for the mention!

That side shooter was a mammoth undertaking. The height savings is almost an inch. .9375”. The big upside is that reception isn’t diminished. The idea for the design was to help with the Wedge campers and minimizing the potential impact from “deflection” or “slap” when moving at high rates of speed on less than ideal conditions(or ideal, depending which side of the bread you like buttered).
