After having my deposit down on a Tacoma TRD Pro since August, the dealer reached out to me late last week to tell me they received the build date. The problem is after assuring me they'd be getting a Cavalry Blue with a manual, they aren't. It turns out they're getting an automatic. I pulled my deposit off it, obviously frustrated, and they had a new buyer an hour later. Seemed kind of shady to me, but whatever at this point.

Going in a new direction now, and leaning towards a TRD Sport. I've grown really fond of Inferno on the Tacoma. I came across a 2018 TRD Sport, manual transmission. According to the spec sheet they sent me, it had Predator Step Tubes, a TRD exhaust, TRD air filter and TRD shifter installed at the port. It also has the black hood decal, which was installed at the port.

MSRP is $37,664, and after numerous emails, they said they would go down to $34,389. I think if I go in to the dealer, I should hopefully be able to get it closer to $33,900. Does that seem like a good deal?

Thanks for the help in advance.

I'm assuming without tech. 33.5k is about the lowest I was finding here in the Bay.

Correct. I've had a couple offers around $33k with no additional options installed. The problem is that I only have 11 manuals in a 200 mile radius, so I don't have much leverage.

I like the predator step tubes, and would probably purchase those regardless. The exhaust, intake, shifter and decal I could do without. They're also making it hard to determine if I'm getting a decent deal or not.

Lower than my area... TRD sports are going for 38k here with dealerships going down to 36k after negotiations. TRD OR is going for 40K and dealerships not going any lower than 39k.

I paid 33,300 for a trd offroad manual with the tech package. 33,900 seems like a good deal with all the extra stuff that truck has.

I was just imagining a brand-new Taco with a manual-that has to be a rare joy to drive such a substantial truck as these new ones are, and with a manual to boot.

Appreciate the input. I'll plan on making the 90 mile drive Saturday morning regardless. Hopefully I'm finally driving a Tacoma soon. Really sick of my Jeep Renegade and the issues that have started to pop up lately.

That sucks the dealer dragged you along like that they should be hooking you up because of that.

We run into that in the sports car scene too. We've learned to make sure they really have an allocation, not just an estimate of when you'll get one. You want an allocation for a build. Not a name on the list for the X'th Pro they get.

You'd think so, right? Nope. They had a 2017 manual left in stock, and would only give me $2,500 off MSRP, which is less than I've seen on some 18's.

Respect for sticking to your guns. Toyota makes thousands of trucks each week, you'll find what you want. Don't settle. My $0.20: Watch those dealer prep fees, they are set in stone and vary from ~200 up to 740 I saw at a Subaru dealer here in VA).

    Oh, and "Save the Manuals"

nothing yet, just tacked on the all weathertech mats and using the free factory cover on the back of it
that sucks, but when they 'order' a truck, a dealership just "preferences" a build that you spec out to Toyota. So there's odds that they get it or not. Whoever told you it's a guarantee is a shady and didn't explain or understand how the process works properly. Good luck, you'll find what you want eventually

Keep driving the renegade for now, save more money
Keep researching- you were all set to get a pro -why? What made you want the pro?
Now you want a sport - why? What makes you want a sport?
Nothing wrong with spending a little time researching a little more to be 100% sure you are getting exactly what you want
Just seems odd to me to jump from a pro (mostly off road oriented) to a sport (mostly street oriented)
Have you researched the off road?
For me the off road was exactly right for me (because I wanted mostly off road oriented but had to have a long bed can’t get a long bed pro) might not be for you and there is nothing wrong with that

You don’t need to even answer these questions on here cause it doesn’t matter what I think is right for me or what others think is right for them
Figure out exactly what you want then find a dealer that has it a good price (good luck with that) and don’t settle for something else
Hate to see someone wishing they had made a different choice

P.S. here’s all of the punctuation I left out
    .,.;?!..,-.

Best of luck to you !!!

How you phrased it, is how I understood it. However they assured me they'd get a manual, and the rep literally said he could guarantee it. I don't know if he was shady or misinformed, but after holding my deposit for this long, I'm irritated that they weren't the least bit apologetic.

I make my living in sales, and the easiest way to lose a customer is overpromise and underdeliver. I'm shocked they aren't offering to give me a great deal on another Tacoma after this. The poor customer service is worse than losing out on the actual truck.

Thats a good deal. It's all about location tho.. supply and demand.

Not sure whats in the tech package I thought the TRD Sports all came with everything..sans the locker. Still I paid about that 2 years ago for mine.

Stick with the M/T you will be happy.

what were you going to pay for the TRD Pro you were waiting for? MSRP? over/under MSRP?
