I don't think he's compensating for the extra distance traveled. After upping tire size, u can't just divide mileage on the odometer by the gallons anymore, you have to factor in the increased distance traveled.

    Here's another one:eek:
    Bought 265/70/17s and same thing
Love the look... hands down makes it look Great!
handling is sluggish... need to slow down more around turns etc. I have factored in the odometer reading (difference = 3.4%) and am also getting 2 to 3mpg less.
yes winter blend may have kicked in, but right now, the mpg and handling are more important than looks... My shop ordered new ones today(stock size)
    I went with Latitude Tour

What a difference! It was like I added horsepower. Right from the get-go I noticed the sluggishness went away.

It only cost me an additional $72- for Tires Plus to swap it out. Stayed with the same tire. Liking these Destination ATs a lot.

Overall I'm really satisfied. I got to try out 32s for a week and a half and I didn't have to pay the consequence of owning these after I realized they aren't for me.

Maybe someday I'll have the guts to get the Taco re-geared for bigger tires. It might not be for a while though 'cause I just bought the 7/75 ext. warranty from the dealership at $895- OTD.

Try it out man. That's the only way you'll really know what works for you. Just make sure the shop has a swap-out policy.

I forgot to mention. The plus side of 265/70/17 is it corrects the damn speedometer to be accurate ( checked with two gps and clocked by radar)
The odometer did slow down... I thought a bonus cuase less miles on the truck.
This was one of the reasons I switched to begin with. I was tired of the 3 mph difference from actual mph. Toyota took a stance that + or - 10% is an acceptable torerance for speedometer accuraccy.

anyway as the OP of this thread... does hog power and does lose mpg. I too (once my taco becomes a secondary vehicle) re gear - beef up the motor and at that time go for 33's

My truck came with 265/70/16 Rugged trails and I got about 18 mpg.

I switched to 265/75/16 LT ProComp M/T tires and my MPG went down to 16 (on highway).

So, I picked up a set of stock steel wheels with the stock Dunlop 245/70/16 tires ($100 used from a TW member). MPG went up to 20 on the highway. I now use these wheels & tires when I am doing a lot of highway driving then switch to the Mud Terrain tires for off-roading.

The only problem is when I have the small tires with steel wheels it looks bad. I have about a 2" lift and 245/70/16 look so small...

Interesting. This is probably why at the delearship I saw a 2010 sport LB v6 with P245/75/16s, and not anymore the P265/65/R17s that my truck came with.

Got the new BFG on today. No noticable difference in take off, no sluggish feeling at all. We will see how the mpg's are affected, but for now, I didn't even feel a difference (other than the way they stick to the road), and that is w/ all 4 dunflops in the bed.
