    Howdy all.

I'm fast approaching the 5,000 mile mark on my Tacoma.

It's been a real pleasure driving this truck.

I"m not really comfortable with waiting on the 10,000 mark to do the first oil change. Did any of you have 'em go ahead and change it at 5K ???

Are there any other things you asked them to do to your Tacoma on that first service ?

I'd have them check your fluid levels (trans, diff). Other than that, really shouldn't need anything. I'll be coming up on 5k in the next couple of months. I'm not planning for an oil change.

Hey sounds like you enjoy the truck! As do I with mine, I've got just over 18k miles on my '17.

I did all the regularly scheduled service up until 18k miles which was my most recent and third service. First two went fine, they just topped off air in the tires or added washer fluid if necessary. I was on a road trip from 14k to 17k miles and decided to skip the third service and had them do the 4th service ( rotate tire & oil ) at 18k miles.

Don't worry about 10K on synthetic unless you're towing, drive regularly in extreme high temps or mountains, or run high rpms for oversize tires. That 5000 is just a basic check. Takes them 10-15 mins. Get any issues logged so they're captured on your acct. (door seal noises, shifting issues, injector pump or valve train noise, etc). Enjoy your free coffee in the lounge! :pccoffee:

They aren't going to change the oil at 5k unless you pay for it. Been there done that.

All they are going to do is check the vehicle over and rotate the tires.

Take pictures of your truck before pulling in.

Dealer scratched my wheel and is now “reviewing video” to see if they caused the damage.

They changed my oil at 5,000 miles , 10,000 and I’m coming up on my 15,000 mile mark. Just look at your receipt for what they did to your truck.

Yep... It is... Just did last week, I was requested oil change and only paid for, rest others are free. Nice work, checked most everything. One thing complaining, my USB wasn't work since day one. They just wanted me change different USB drive which I already tried at least 6 of them. Nobody tell me the USB must format FAT 32, either service and sales, until I found in forum.

I did. I had them do my 10k at around the 5k mark, for the oil change.

Don't go, do it yourself. They will scratch your truck and leave grease on the inside. Tech's don't give a shit about your truck. Good luck.

yea....pictures don’t mean a thing at my dealer....i had the infamous rear leak and i took pictures 1 hr before I went to have them check it out.....it was leaking pretty good....they told me after 1.5 hrs, that there was nothing wrong and took me back to look at it....BONE DRY........could not believe my eyes....I showed them the pictures and they said “well we did not know when you took those pictures or even if it is your truck and we did not wipe it down”.....i went bananas......called Corporate and within 24 hrs had call and went back to dealer to have the gasket and bolts changed......never been back to that dealer

I had em do my first oil change at 5K, then at 10K I did it on my own with amsoil signature series oil not expecting it to get changed till 20K. When I went in for my 15K service not long ago, they "accidently" clicked the wrong button and ended up changing my oil again. He said it would be "on the house." So they'll do it again at the 20K I guess. I do know that if I'm gonna run it 10K, I want it to be amsoil which is rated for 1year/25K miles. Not sure what I'm gonna do, but I would for sure recommend having them do the first change at 5K, even if you go the full 10K from that point on.

Their thieves, can't be trusted, even when purchasing a brand new truck off the lot. You have to 2nd check everything.

lol in retrospect, you're right. They gave me a courtesy detail, and it ended up just wiping the interior with Armor All

My advise: Stay home and reset the service reminder. I NEVER return to the dealer unless there is a warranty issue. The service people simply don't care about your truck.
