Do you ever do any recreational target practice out that way?

From the Nevada border to and into Utah is mostly desert. You can find places to shoot all over the place. A lot of the land along the highway is fenced but a lot isn’t. Just find a dirt road heading away from the highway, drive on it for 15 minutes or so and you’ll find places you can shoot. You can camp out there too. Most of the areas you’ll be driving through are wide open desolate land with no people or buildings. I haven’t target practiced in Utah but have out in the desert in Nevada. The trip there isn’t all flat land. You’ll drive over several mountain passes that range from a couple thousand feet to probably around 7000 feet. Probably be snow on the higher peaks.
I drive from Elk Grove, Ca. To Dammeron Valley. Takes me 11 to 12 hours. I’m not in a rush. Stops for gas, food, and bathroom breaks . I drive 5 to 10 mph over the limit. Nevada state patrol uses radar even in the middle of nowhere so watch your speed.
I have friends who have a horse ranch in Dammeron Valley and go to visit them at least once a year. There is a lot to do and see in in Utah. Several National parks. Have a great trip.

id recommend fishing the Trinity on 299. Grab your steelhead/salmon report cards and you can hit it from willow creek to weaverville. The Klamath is cool, but parts can be a little sketchy...not the nicest people sometimes from Orleans south to WC. Use common sense if you go up 96

If you get stuck anywhere, give Winder towing a call. You might make it on a Matt’s Offroad Recovery video: https://youtu.be/DrUD4mSvZms His channel makes me want explore Southern Utah.

Cold there this time of year.

The road from Hanksville through Hite and on to Blanding is remote and beautiful. State route 95, I think...

That's why I built a camping trailer. 1200 pounds and I have a real queen size bed, a stove, and a toilet.
