Well time's running out for my laptop, i dont want a brand new one as 1200$+ just isnt in my budget.

    I want to get a 2011 or 2012(model a1278 in particular)

I dont particulary care for the new retina display, just more money to spend for a feature i dont need.

As far as processor 2.5+Gz's will do as my laptop currently is 2.1 so the speed increase would be good.

at least 4GB of ram. Current laptop has 3

I need a 500HDD for music and school purposes.

The question really is should i just go new or should i try to find a deal on a model that fits the criteria i listed above.

I just want a laptop that runs fast(i dont game on laptops so not super fast) and can make it through the rest of college without a hitch. I figure there are some mac users with the model(s) i described and can chime in.

    Thanks!

    Cam.

Bought my ex a MBP, she really loves it. I spruced it up with a solid state drive and added more ram myself, if you order like that through the factory it will cost you some buku money but I bought it used (I think $1800) and spent another $400 on the ram and SSD, installed myself so essentially I spent 2200 on a 3k laptop, as far as I know she is still using it today. I would never use a mac myself, you can get the same peripherals in a windows laptop and spend half as much, if you wanted you could also buy OSX and dual boot it on said laptop and still spend less.

I love mine, I use it pretty hard and it never fails to work perfectly.

Might be able to find a refurbished model within your budget, more expensive than used, but they include a 1yr warranty.

Thanks for the posts fellas, I've been looking on craigslist(kinda sketch at times i feel) and ebay, some of the laptops on there, they claim to have applecare still on them, so if i could get one with applecare still on for another year or 2 that'd be butter as far as im concerned.

Would it be better to go new though?

So if I could find a MacBook with the AppleCare warranty still in effect and I could get it for a good price it would be worth buying used?

I'm just making sure I read that right.

What do y'all think about the macbook Air?

I dont use my computer for anything but papers, youtube, presentations, that sorta stuff, although the absence of the CD drive appears a bit off but they are cheaper.

i was thinking the same thing, it'd be like having 2wd and wishing for 4wd(like i am ironically).

I will look for the macbook pro WITH applecare in my searches now, i would hate for a costly repair and wish i had the warranty

Also, can you add more RAM or upgrade the HDD on these things?

Just something i could do down the road if i feel it's too slow.
