    Oof

There's plenty of BLM around Kern County which is great for night shoots

I guess I should be more specific. I dont think ill be able to go roam around outdoors. I was thinking more in town stuff to do. I have to drop her off and pick her up through out the day so I have to be on stand by. Thanks though for the suggestion

Was born in Bakersfield, its truly a terrible place. The only redeeming thing about the place is food.

An hour east is Kernville. I consider is home after living there for many years. very small town but very special to me with its beauty especially in the spring when the wildflowers come out for a bit

I've only ever seen signs (I-5) to Bakersfield growing up in L.A.

Places I ventured to was Lancaster & Quartz Hill.

Yea I was really limited with time as i accompanied my wife to Bakersfield for work related stuff. She had a few meetings set up for Tuesday and Wednesday. I was pretty much her driver dropping her off at different locations so I didnt have much time in between these meetings. Although the national parks were not that far it was still not enough time for me to take a drive out and come back on time. So pretty much all i did was drive around and park. I did absolutely nothing for 2 days.

Roads to Sherman tree just got closed the last day or two for weather.

Dad has a cabin in Alta Sierra, above Lake Isabella. If you don't have a cabin and ATVs, there isn't much to do in that area, nor in downtown Bakersfield either. Never did make it to Buck Owens.

Unfortunately I was born and raised in Bakersfield. It is not the most vibrant place, but affordable to live in and “near” both mountains and the coast. The mountains are currently covered with snow and beautiful. Due to my profession, I would take a huge pay hit to move. 7 mores years, then I retire, and move somewhere in the Rockies.

What do you like to do and what types of food do you like? I can give more recommendations with that info.

Take a bike ride on our 30+ mile bike path.

    Visit the California Living Museum.

Explore the Kern River Canyon. Nice and green right now.

Hike the hills outside Hart Park.

Hike Windwolves preserve south of town.

Head up to the Lake Isabella and Kernville area.

Have Basque food at Woolgrowers or Italian at Frugattis, Bill Lees for Chinese. For Mexican food there are tons of great choices, Rancho Grande is my current favorite.

Have a beer at Temblor or Lengthwise.

I saw the OPs post right after it was posted. I didn't want to crap on someone's home town so I didn't say anything, but since a few poster from there already posted... as mentioned, don't go unless you have no choice. Big population but really nothing there. Skid mark in the underwear of California is what someone told me once.

I’d be more concerned if people weren’t crapping on it. I don’t think I miss anything about it other than some amazing places to get food
