[IMG] The tundra is the go to when pulling a trailer but I bought a Honda SXS. The tundra isn’t 4 door for the kiddos so I bought a small trailer and hitch for my Tacoma. You can really feel it behind you. I played with tongue weight but the truck seems to struggle with it. Not the engine as much as transmission.

I look at these trucks as a jack of all trades, master of none. They kinda just do everything "okay"

Where you using ECT? Makes all the difference when pulling a load by keeping the trucks RPMs up. ECT and ECT with S mode. It’s a Light duty Japanese utility truck, though. Not really engineered with towing being a high priority.

The Owner's Manual says to turn on ECT when towing.

Yep, ECT on and S mode. Do the shifting yourself. The truck likes 4-6,000 rpms. I use 5,000 rpms all day long with the AC on max and it feels like the thing just asks for more. It takes awhile to believe what this Krazzy thing is actually capable of.

I had to tow 13k lbs for a few miles, I was impressed with how it handled. But then again my truck is far from stock

This is just silly. I tow the same SxS on a 6x10 with a kids Chinese quad in the bed of the SxS through the foothills of the Appalachian mountains while the truck bed is loaded with tools, gear, chainsaws, post hole digger, gas, and other crap around max payload or more.

I even have a roof and windshield on my SxS and the only effect that had was my mileage plummeted from 14 MPG or so to about 12. Taco has 0 issues at these weights with S mode and ETC on.

This is all at 65-70 mph as well.

Yes I was using ect but mine doesn’t have different modes. It’s changes gears and acts like it’s struggling.

You were probably in just “drive” you need to use “s” and stick it in S4

I’m getting about 21mpg without the trailer and 17 with. I have a old homestead up in the Appalachian Mountains that I drive up to on the weekends to shoot guns and ride. But the truck definitely doesn’t like it. The tundra is a V8 and the Tacoma a V6 so I knew there would be a different feel but I honestly think I’m going to tear something up.

I tow my Boston whaler thats about the same size as that Carolina skiff with my 2020 tacoma. It does alright, like said you need use the ect mode, and mostly the s modes. Its a big enough difference coming from my gen1 tundra with the 4.7 v8. You always feel the load your pulling with the tacoma. Not so much with the tundra. With the tacoma helps to have over a thousand miles before towing anything.

You're not going to tear something up. Stop over thinking it. This little v6 likes to sing, let it. S mode and ETC will get the job done. I came from a 6 liter so I get it though.

Also don't use cruise control, trust me it's far better without it.

Man, you are not gonna tear anything up. This 3.5 is oversquare engine, meaning it has a very short stroke. It will run in high rpms all day long, thats how it was designed.

Never recommended to tow with cruise control.

OP just push the skinny pedal. It will be fine if you're within the specs listed in the manual.
