Hi I have never owned a Tacoma...

I'm trying to weight the options of a TRD vs Limited

I want the options the limited has but I dont want the brown leather interior ( wish they had black) and I like the look of the hood scoop on the TRD....

Has anyone here been able to order the hood from the factory on a limited ?

anyone here know if the 2017 will have the option for black leather interior if I wait a few more months?

I have never bought a new car before and the salesman has only worked for toyota for 2 months and is not very knowledgeable other then just using the toyota.ca website...

I even emailed Toyota canada and they said to talk to the dealership and were not very helpful....
Maybe someone from Toyota on this board can help me ?
    Thanks
    Greg

If you get the TRD OR, you'll save about $5k. You could use that toward 17" Wheels, tires, and a lift/leveling kit and plasti dip the grill. Oh, and seat covers. Forget the hood scoop, it's just for looks. Just my opinion! At the end of the day, you have to be happy with the truck. Good luck!

OP ... Use a good buying service like COSTCO, USAA, TrueCar.com, AARP or etc to get best price.

Both the TRD OR and Limited are great trucks ... I have had 2 or 3 TRD OR's (Gen. 2's) and both were great trucks ... the Limited was not available then.

I hear Katskins leather is nicer than factory.

I had black leather seats professionally installed in my truck for around $1200 bucks. It was from local company that uses OEM style top leather seating kits by Katzkin or Roadwire. So buy saving money (by not getting the limited), you could spend that money for leather seats in a TRD sport and have your hood scoop. You can NOT get a hood scoop ordered on a limited or any other trim...only comes on the Sport. period. When you pay for premium & technology package option on the sport, you'll have almost all the bells n whistles that the limited has. That's my $0.02 worth.

Don't overthink it and more importantly, take what advice people give you on here with a grain of salt. Get the truck YOU want and the one YOU like the best. Regardless of what you get, it will be a VERY capable truck unless you're doing insane off-roading (stupid in my opinion with a new $30k+ truck). If you like the TRD Sport, get it. Plenty of guys will chime in and say the TRD Sport is less of a value than the TRD OR. Agree to disagree. If you're not going to use the things the TRD OR has, then regardless of price, it's not a good value if you're not going to use it, and again, in it's stock form the TRD Sport is a VERY capable truck. (I bet most of the people who have the OR probably used Crawl Control once when they bought the truck just to try it and have never used it since.) Check out the Clazzio leather seat covers thread. I have them in my truck and they look absolutely amazing and have had them for 4 months now with regular use and they still look new. Way cheaper than having a shop install aftermarket leather, and about a third the price. Everyone that I tell that they are seat covers is impressed.

If you're deadset on the Limited but also want the hood scoop you can always order a hood with a hood scoop from Toyota through the dealership. One member here did that and posted a thread about it.

One other thing I have to add. Test drive the truck in both automatic and manual and take it to 60-70mph. I went with the manual because I didn't like the new auto transmission (I like having control over my gears). You might have a different opinion though.

Next year the TRD Pro comes out, it'll have black leather and hood scoop.

Here is my question to you. What exactly do you plan to do with the truck. Will it be your daily driver to and from work. Are you planning on doing a lot of off roading, camping, fishing, going to the beach. You can always get after market leather seats which come in a variety of colors and design. Also you should consider where you live. For instance if you get a lot of snow, if you live in hilly mountain areas, or live around beach areas. Your decision should be based off of your life style and living location The limited is the tacomas high luxury model. It can do off roading but if I were to get a limited I would not do any major off roading with it. Good luck.

    Thanks for all the replys!
The Tacoma would be a daily driver with the occasional light logging road / camp / pack around the dogs.
The limited is nice except not a fan of the brown leather. Plus I like the hood scoop :)
I'm going to talk to the dealer tomorrow

been doing a promotion here at the dealership. Your dad has informed me that you are now after a TRD Double Cab Upgrade Package with 5”Bars and Roof Rack. If your Q5 is the Technik Package and has the Navigation and the 20” wheels we would be at the $37,000 number on trade.

Tacoma as specified plus I have added a block Heater is:

    $44,642

$37,000 Trade if as specified by your dad and you.

    $7,642

    $399 Documentation

    $8,041 Plus PST and GST

I have the Limited and love the seats, brown (hickory) though they are.

I had a 2011 Sport with the hood scoop and hated it. In the evenings, driving west, it didn't seem to matter where I moved my head the sun was ALWAYS hitting it and bouncing straight to my eyes. I traded it the next year for a 2012 SR5 because of that damn scoop.

You can get bars or sliders and a roof rack elsewhere. They're easy to install and likely cheaper than the dealer would charge. Block heater seems necessary if you're in Canada.

For what you're wanting a pro checks all of the boxes you're asking for. The price of the limited fully equipped sounds like a similar price.

OP, get one with black cloth seats and then you can later buy new seat covers. No need to spend $ at the dealership. Also, very important, they will add the price of carpet mats to your price tag. Tell them you want all weather rubber mats instead, you'll regret it otherwise.
