I've got a new TRD rear exhaust (PTR0335161) to install for my 2018 TRD Sport short bed double cab and it's looks like it may be a little challenging getting it over the rear axle? Any tricks to make it easier?
Does it require a gasket at the bolt together flange? Doesn't appear to have one.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Will take 2 people and I didn't need a new gasket and my truck is 5 years old.

I found this video useful, this guy did it himself. Wd40 and wrench on rubber hanging points is a good tip. They are installing an aftermarket but same concept getting it off/on.

I put it under the truck, laid on my back, and benched it up and over the axle. Put one or two of the hangers in, move to the other side, put the bolts through, finish putting hangers in the rubber grommets.

White lithium grease or any other slippery substance on the hangers for easy removal and install.

Was your gasket stuck? I didn’t see an obvious gasket to be honest, but there was something that was relatively stuck on the crossover pipes so I left it.

Nope the only bitch part for the guy putting it on was the 2 bolts attaching it to the cats. Those spring loaded fuckers weren't fun.

The ones on my 18 weren’t spring loaded like some I’ve seen, but they were definitely tight. Required a breaker to get started followed by at least 10 ugga duggas.

    none yet
i did mine alone with WD-40 and some good imagination, getting over the axle was the hardest part, socket and a ratchet, whole thing took about 45 min...never did one before so not sure how long it should take anyone who has ever done it

Newbie question: what does a "performance" exhaust do? Is it just different sounding?

Spray the rubber hangers with WD40 so they slide off easier.

I've done it twice by myself only takes like 15 minutes once you've done it before.

Only trick is if you don't have your truck jacked is you have to sort of "wrap" it around the axle. I slid it under the truck with the exhaust tip facing the DRIVERS side (backwards), you hook the exhaust tip over the axle that way, then as you slide it over you rotate it to the proper position. Just lay down some towels so you don't scrape the tip on the ground.

I did it solo. I used all the original exhausts parts on the new one .I sprayed the bolts and hangers first. I then went and bought the exhaust hanger pliers and jacked my truck up on the passenger side. The most trouble I had was figuring out which way to turn the exhaust to get it through towards the rear of the truck. Overall, very easy installation. I’m happy with the sound change overall. Best of luck.

Thanks all! I've sprayed with WD40. As I thought, getting over axle seems to be most difficult part. New gasket is $33 from Toyota, will definitely try to re-use old one.
I believe I will leave the tip covered with the factory bubble wrap until installation is complete to avoid scratching.

I did my TRD exhaust with no extra hands. I lowered the spare tire to aid with snaking the new exhaust. Kept the tip wrapped in the plastic to avoid scratches. Very possible with no help.

I thought about lowering the spare tire, however wondered if I would actually save any time/effort after accounting for how long it would take to do it.

They do a nice job of boxing/packing the unit, I wasn't expecting that. When I owned my auto parts stores, exhaust parts came loose/un-packaged. I guess for what they charge they can afford the box.

It was easy. Remove spare tire for more wiggle room. I used impact wrench to loosen 2 bolts. Dishwashing liquid soap to help slide from the rubber damper. Used end of ratchet to push it out. Placed a box under it to prevent the pipe from falling. I slid it forward and a quarter turn it clears the axle. My wife helped me.
