So my girlfriend and I are going to San Diego In two weeks on the 21st. I needed your guys input on where was a good place to stay. I was looking at maybe the bahia resort or maybe just saving some money and staying at a cheaper place like I think its the kings inn or best western. As long as its not a dump. But even then we wont spend much time there. Just dont want to get robbed coming home late from the club.
We are both over 21 and like to do anything from just sitting on the beach (even if its cold) to the wildlife preserve to a good bike ride. Never tried surfing but im down to try it. I would like to skydiving or race jetskis on the ocean. Anything is an option. Can be very active or just relaxing.
Also what was a must do while im there. I think we are going whale watching. Found a few different places for that just not sure which ones the best bang for the buck. Any input would be great. Thanks in Advance.

How long will you be out here?

Point Loma --> Cabrillo Natl Monument has the best view of Downtown/Coronado. Park closes at 5pm. I can PM you directions

SD --> Old town has haunted house. Must try Baja Betty's Sunday mimosa/sangria brunch. National Maritime History Museum, also has a haunted boat and rooskie sub. The USS Midway is also right there if you enjoy US Naval history.

Coronado --> If you have the $$$ stay at the Hotel Del Coronado, otherwise take a tour. For mojitos, try Azul Restaurant. On the beach at the start of the Strand, you can watch jets take off/land at North Island, may even get lucky and see some BUD/s trainees. If you go south on the Strand to IB, there is a taco shop on the immediate left (2 lights after the end of Strand) called Ponchos. Burritos-Cali w/ sour cream and guac, carne/pollo asada, and chorizo. Rolled tacos are good too and the horchata.

OB/PB --> Ocean/Pacific beach; party/bars! OB is hippies and PB is surferish/college mix. If you go to PB, you must check out the Silver Fox. Also in PB there is Cotijas, get the breakfast burrito and try fish tacos at romeros, you won't be disappointed. Remember Romeros, not Romieros.

La Jolla --> Touristy shops and the Cove. Also has Mt. Soledad memorial for the best view of the coast running north and over looking la jolla.

Escondido --> If you like vino, head up to the winerys up there (30min away). For get the name, but at one winery on sundays they make sourdough loaves hollowed out wtih garlic butter and melted brie inside that is effin amazing. Then head up to their sister winery 2 min up the road and grab a cigar from their bar. Each winery gives you 6 samples for a total of 12 for $15. My girl and I hit it up and it was a great day, I believe the wine to pair with the bread is Heathers Mist IIRC.

Downtown has lots of restaurants and nightlife also. It may also be helpful to know what types of things you like to do while on vacation. Some may want to sit on the beach or by a pool and enjoy drinks while others are more active.

If we have a better feel of what you like to do on vacation it might be easier to give some ideas.

There are a few different places you can charter a boat for a day to go deep sea fishing if that interests you and surfing is always an easy option for something to do for a few hours

well thats really hard for me. Cause I like to do everything from sitting on the beach to something more extreme like skydiving. So anything is an option. Even thought about going to tijuana. Its just a matter of if there is enough time. But yeah any good local beaches or even restaurants would be good as well.

La Jolla is a great place to spend the day at the beach. You can rent surfboards and wetsuits if you want to surf or just relax at the beach.

http://www.sandiegorestaurants.com/ Great link for finding restaurants in San Diego.

http://skydivesandiego.com/ If you're serious about going skydiving.

San Diego Zoo, the Wild Animal Park, or Sea World are some of the attractions that are around San Diego

Spent many a weekend here with the wife and kids, free breakfast and adult drinks at night, kids drinks too. Very clean rooms, nice outdoor mall across the street and a PF Chang's in the hotel parking lot. A little on the pricy side but when you factor in free breakfast and the drinks at night, not so bad.

I lived here in SD County my whole life...

The zoo is big on the list to see, Sea World too. Pass on the Wild Animal Park if it's a choice between it and the zoo.

Oceanside Harbor and the beach right there a very nice, many places to east (Fish and Chips place rocks). Seaport Village is a follow up if Oceanside is too far a drive (30 mi. north of SD).

Back Country... Go see Julean (gold mine tour, apple pies) or the train museum in Campo has a train ride on the old San Diego and Arizona Eastern Railroad line.

Two Spanish missions in the county and two visita missions (satellite missions) are San Diego de Alcala (near the Charger stadium Qualcomm), San Luis Rey in Oceanside, Santa Ysabel (near Julean), and Pala (near Escondido). Indian Casinos too...

Scripps Birch Aquarium near La Jolla is another idea...

You will have plenty to see and do... and can't do it all!
