Zeus, don't buy from Haley or Berglund Toyota. You will pay way to much. Plus their dealer processing fee is ridiculous. Call Gary Eavey at McDonaugh Toyota in Staunton. I have a black or dc 6sp manual ordered from him which I'm probably going to back out of but his price otd was 33951.32. I think he will come down I bit more to. I'm going to go with a Sr ac 5sp manual instead. Just don't want to pay that much or need a dc. If you are interested in the or dc I will gladly let you have it if you want black. It is scheduled to be delivered in may.

Ladies a gents i want to thank you. Instead of going to the dealership and trying to talk to them I emailed 5 dealerships and talked one down to 31,918. If I didnt listen I would have paid MSRP. Honestly thank you.

Great job! Actually if this is your first purchase, it's awesome.

The buying services are helpful for people who are uncomfortable dealing with the sell tactics used, but if you do your homework and stick to your numbers, you can beat truecar and Costco consistently.

Using email to negotiate is my favorite tactic - and I never give them my cellphone number until they agree to play ball.

My wife and I work together (good cop, bad cop) to make it easier to walk out.

After following this forum for couple of months I'm still hesitant about getting a Tacoma at the end of 2016. A lot of problems with a brand new truck + very expensive due to high demand. I understand not all Tacoma owners are on here, so probably the trucks with issues are a relatively low %, but still makes me wonder if it would be a good decision. Anyone regretting so far? This would be my first Tacoma (and Toyota for that matter) so I'm not loyal to the brand by any means.

Not trying to start a war and also not trolling, just asking for honest opinions. Thanks!

87% of toyotas sold in the last 20 years are still on the road. They must be doing something right in my opinion. That and the new tacomas are gorgeous

Went from a loaded 2005 Tahoe to a 16 Tacoma SR.

Absolutely no regrets. All vehicles have their issues.

I'll put Toyota's parts supply chain against GMs any day, GM has so many suppliers if they get a bad batch of a part from one, it's almost impossible to trace back.

You must have had a bad experience somewhere... I work in sales in Oklahoma and we are very down to earth no games type of place. (trying to leave just to get a better deal is a game). It gets on my last nerve when a customer says I don't want to play games then they do this type of stuff.. The way I like to do deals is just ask what do I have to do to earn your business today? It makes it very simple for both parties involved.

I've been asked that, with no success. They ask, I tell them, and they say they can't do it. I say fine and try to leave, but they won't let you, and almost always come down to my reasonable offers, after several negotiations. If they did the deal when they ask the question, it would save a lot of bs haggling and games. That tactic you suggest probably works with most people that don't research and have no idea what a reasonable offer is and are worried about keeping their payments within their range.

If most dealers were like you, people and dealers wouldn't have to play games. Sadly most aren't. Yes, I've had a few sub par buying, or trying to buy, experiences.

I respond with $5 a month. Stupid question deserves the same answer.........

I tell them I am shopping the price of the ENTIRE vehicle not just a month's worth. I never shop payments...probably because unless the interest rate is 1.5% or under, I am a cash buyer. When people pay cash for a vehicle they look far more closely at the vehicle's value and resale down the line. When leasing it is EXTRA important to get a decent cap reduction from MSRP. Many People who lease just buy the advertised lease deal which can easily be beat,

If they ask the usual talk track ;"What can we do to earn your business today?" I tell them what I will pay for the vehicle...whether leased or purchased. Either they can and will , they can and won't or they just make the sale.

I realize many don't care about resale as they will be long time owners and resale is not important. But the CAP REDUCTION is always important. Its nice to own a vehicle for $2000+ less than others are paying,

IF I own my truck for $33K others are paying $35K+ for, that $2000+ is worth more at the end of the day as it accumulates interest, or pays for $2000 worth of "free" accessories,

Hi TacoBella, wondered if you can answer a cpl questions ? You sound like you know just what you are talking about. My sister asked me the other day how do go about dealing when leasing and I didn't have a clue. I drive way over miles to even think about it. She is about a 6500 to 7000 mile a year driver and just wants to update every 2 or 3 years.
Can you give me any advice on how to negotiate a deal when leasing ? She was just going to pay what she saw advertised in a newspaper ad on a Toyota car, not sure which model. What is the cap you were talking about ? And should she go in like she is buying and get the price down then base the lease off that ? I will probably ending up going with her and will research invoice first and try to help here with it. She is the type more concerned with the color than the lease details, lol. Thank you for any insight you can offer.

Cap Cost is MSRP (or plus an addendum for unscrupulous dealers) Reducing the Capital Cost is the same as getting a discount from MSRP. People don't realize they are paying for the base model with those come on lease prices. It is very important to reduced the cap cost (including their Doc Fee) Then take their money factor and multiply by 2400 to reveal actual interest rate, They CAN change that.

With a lease you have to know the money factor Nx2400= actual interest. The residual should be high for the best leases. The bank determines that number. Dealers can and do mess with money factor numbers as interest confusing the buyers......

I am sure a few could help you. The thing is those salespeople do this every day. She is doing it once. So she has to research the vehicle she wants for invoice pricing, Get TrueCar as well (but don't use those dealers as the TrueCar number can be beat even if its only the $300 the dealer has to pay them if you buy a car there). Take those sales numbers as representative of the most you will pay. Anyone can sell at TrueCar if they want to.

Send emails to as many dealers as possible. some will need to sell a vehicle sooner than another, Don't make an offer until you see their price. People get better deals away from their locale because those dealers know they only have one shot at you. Thier prices may be better selling out of their area
