I have a base 2wd 4cyl and want to go up one size to a 225-75-15,or a comparable size in a 16" rim..I've been looking at possibly a factory 16",and notice they are 1" wider..Is this a concern? Also,in a 16" what tire what would be closest equal to a 225-75-15? Another point,I'm only interested in filling up the wheel well a little, and don't want to compromise mileage and want a quiet smooth riding tire with the minimal "legal" load rating..thanks for the input! Randy

Randy I'm in the same spot. Want bigger rims and tires but don't wanna sacrifice anything either. Did you end up finding the perfect size?

sounds like 265-75-16 is the largest you can go on a 16" rim without rubbing. in theory you'll lose a little in mileage/acceleration, which some have reported, but not drastic. I got that info here on the forum. I imagine that would be amplified with a 4cyl. you could also do a LT235-85 (taller/skinnier) but that tire only comes in an E rating (stiffer rubber, rougher ride from what I've been told).

FYI I have michelin ms2's in a 245-75-16 and they're awesome. super smooth ride and the quietest tire I've ever had on a truck. not big, but a nice size for this truck as far as a compromise between looks/function.

if you're moving up from 15's, and want a little bigger without a big sacrifice elsewhere, I think you'd like the 245's. Hope this helps. I don't think I'd go bigger than the 245's on an 4cyl auto, but maybe someone else has some insight for you. in a first gen, yes. but not in a 2nd gen.

I believe he is talking about the regular 2WD not the prerunner 2WD.

As yet still on stockers, but I briefly drove a Frontier xcab sv model with much larger tires and wheels(but it looks like ANY truck comes w bigger than these 215-70-14's on mine) and was amazed how much better it handled road imperfections.Wasn't sure if it was mostly attributed to the bigger wheels/tires or not..I just know those tires look goofy as hell in those big wheel wells on mine, and this is one rough riding truck. Also, are all 5 bolt Toyota wheels interchangeable, bolt pattern, offset, rubbing etc..I don't want to jack the suspension up,or lose much power/mileage.help.! Lol,Thanks!
