    Go to the range.
Rent a bunch of handguns and try them out.
Get the one that fits you the best and that YOU can shoot.

With that said this is my Glock 19
    • Shitty plastic sights removed and replaced with 10-8 sights.
    • Front and Top serrations applied to the slide by ATEi.
    • Frame stippled with trigger guard undercut by Fowler Industries.
    • Everything else that makes the gun go BANG is stock.

You weren't shooting it sideways right? That's the only way I could imagine you catching brass in your own shirt.

Spongy? My G43's trigger is anything but spongy, you have to pull the trigger back with almost 8lbs of force. It snaps not squishes

I just don't see how it's possible to throw brass back, the extractor is on the side and is spring loaded to kick the spent case out to the right

Really depends on the extractor, and the brass to be honest.... I havent had a glock throw back at me. But I havent had bad extractors in other fire arms that did. They also came with fte's ...
Additionally I have had some poor brass sling back. Looking at the brass, as it was worn from reloads. Showed signs of getting stuck on the extractor. With heavy marking around the lip from what we can only assume was the extractor.

Look at the ar-15 / m16 etc. Not that it is incorrect or poorly designed, or has a bad extractor; i happen to love mine. But.... It is located on the side, same as others, and requires a deflector on the upper for the brass. To keep it from coming backwards.

I'm a 1911 guy, through and through. BUT, you will never hear me knocking a G19 as someone's choice. It may be the single, all around best handgun ever produced.

Also, I'd suggest sticking with 9mm. Low recoil lets you develop skills and cheapest ammunition means you can practice more.

IIRC The early Gen 4 Glocks had funky extractors. There's an updated part number for it that Glock will gladly swap out for you. Maybe the fellow talking about brass to face hasn't had these parts updated in his pistols?

That said: Another vote for Glock and a vote for 9mm as a first pistol. Glock 17 was my first.

    I like the g19.
Personally I'd have gone .40 though. Then you can change out a few cheap parts and shoot 9mm or .357 from same gun.

Add some iron night sights and a glock is more than I need and then some..

OP - If you've already based your selection after handling/shooting a good variety of handguns, then it's a fine choice. If not, do as others have suggested and shoot as many as you can before deciding.

Personally, I'm a Sig fan because Glocks don't feel nearly as good in my hand and I feel my accuracy suffers as a result.

But...I'm not going to bash Glocks (sorry fanboys on both sides) because they are indeed an awesome platform (as well as Sig).

Pick the G19 and shoot the shit out of it....it'll never let you down.

My first handgun was a Glock, but it was a 20C. I really enjoyed.16-G20C.jpgThis ballistic chart might be just a hair inaccurate, but not much lol jkballisticsfunny.jpg

My G30 has a tendency to toss back brass with 230 gr ammo not often but does happen....

One of the Glock factory guys at the range said he always recommends 185 gr ammo in the G30 slows down the slide a little to help prevent the slide from pushing brass back...

I love my g26 for conceal carry. It was my first handgun but if I would to get a bigger size I'd go 19 as well. The 26 has some kick to it for being such a small frame but try shooting a 43 that little bastard had to much kick

    Whole lotta stuff
The combination of a defective extractor and ammunition can change the angle of the direction of brass. As stated above perhaps the extractor on the gun the above user had was defective. Or perhaps a certain load of ammunition was used that positive/negative effected the cyclic speed, which can cause a difference in ejection direction. Either way, the happenstance isn't entirely unlikely for any semi-auto firearm.

I myself am not much of a Glock guy; maybe because of the design, maybe because they're more mainstream, or because striker-fire isn't my favorite (although probably better for weather sealing). It's just not my cup of tea. I just purchased an H&k USP .40 for my first handgun. I've shot the 9mm and 45, and the H&K always felt good in the hands.

In my opinion, choosing a handgun is about going down to the gun store and picking up a few, seeing how comfortable they feel in your hand, rent one and see how comfortable you are with shooting characteristics, and then make a purchase. The handgun that feels most natural to hold and shoot is probably the best fit for you.

I thought that too at first and figured I must have been holding it wrong but its just that little frame. I shot the 43 and the 26 one after the other and you can tell the difference. My brother in law says the same thing and the 43 was his gun. He had better accuracy with the 26 compared to the 43
