Everybody knows that it is easier to Pull Something ( Front Wheel Drive ) than it it is to Push Something ( Rear Wheel Drive ).

You could try using reverse on the beach, before you dig it into a hole.

    Or air down.

seriously if you are not airing down, thats 100% of your problem right there. for 45 bucks you can get a decent lil air compressor that will fill all tires in less than 20 min.

In the sand EVEN WITH 4x4 i ALWAYS air down.... SOOO much easier on the truck and its SO much better to not get stuck in the first place vs getting stuck n digging out. Also park always pointed down hill..

Also... when you do air down... do all 4 so you are not plowing through the sand but riding on top of it.

and i gotta say it, prerunner problems... its why i bought a 4x4.

guys I get what all of you are saying. I don't want the trouble of airing down. Yep lazy ass American who wants instant gratification of going to the beach then leaving without extra work of A: re-inflating tires and B: Watching all the other two wheel drives NOT get stuck 50% of the time going to said beach. Backing in will help yes. PSI answer is I run 30 and what tires would be the stock Brigstones which for a sport pre runner look pretty off=road-ish.
Thanks for the advice and overall maturity for this thread guys! I thought it might turn into a 3rd Gen like shit storm so I'm happy.

What trouble, take air out then put the air back in! I mean shit, the beach near me has air stations to make it that much easier!

Another thing to keep in mind that hasnt been talked about. When you dont air down you create deep ruts in the sand. Any beach veteran will say that is a no no when it comes to beach 4X4ing !

Pretty sure the beach patrol watches me fill in my two rear wheel drive only ruts.... but good advice overall for the beach protection. Tearing up the beach is not my intention because it feeds the fire to remove all of the vehicles off the beach completely; a big political issue here in Volusia county. Remember y'all this isn't me "wheeling on the beach", this is paying my toll charge like everyone else then just parking.

The old Aerostar was on a Ranger platform. Never got stuck. The old Chebie 1500 2wd never got stuck. Both with street tires. Even the '59 Chebie with skinnies in wet red clay would back out when wheel hop got tough going forward.

If you are parking where tide water runs in around the tires, you'll sink.

If you are parking in unpacked powder, you are at risk.

Have you tried parking nose in first so you can back out when leaving?

Otherwise you're spot on. Drive the FWD SUV.

1st gens can do it about a grand. When i had a prerunner i considered a 4x4 conversion but unless I did all the work myself and all the fabrication(new crossmembers and such which I cant do) the cost is a wash vs buying a 4x4

Ah that makes more sense. So the sand is really just a bridge to wherever you are going. Well that is a dilemma.

Guess you have to give something up. Either you give up your time to air down , give up your wallet to get a 4X4 or give up your manhood and get pulled out by David Hasselhoff beach patrol.
