    Hey all,
I am bringing the wife to visit the Island, we will be in Kona..never been to Hawaii before! Hoping to get some ideas on what to do while there and good spots to eat. Would like to see some of the locals trucks while there also. Anyone in the area?

possible to expect a higher rate for your stay (hotel, rental car, etc) due to the lava flow.

Kona? Coffee!!. Never been to Kona but on Maui there were bike rides down the mountain. Something like 20 miles all down hill, I peddled 400 yards? My kind of bike ride.

Take a camera to feed the Things That Make You Say WTF thread. On the islands they build some of the most incredibly stupid looking and performing trucks imaginable.

Where you staying? I was there in March for the first time and can give you some pointers. We did spend a whole day at the volcano, but that is out now. You can still get close and see some activity, but not any lava.

Kona Brewery. Place is awesome. Some of the best pizza I have ever had in my life was there. Buy the growler and go back for cheap refills. The brewery tour was meh.

If you are into coffee, lots of places to tour. Try and go to the places that are actual farms, I think the experience is better. We went to Greenwell Farms, free tour and free samples of coffee. Most other places charged.

Splashers is a great place to eat. Huggo’s had great breakfast. Bongo Bens was always crowded, but I thought the food wasn’t up to par.
