Regardless of ride height, the suspension still needs to move through the same range of motion. Without the aftermarket UCAs, you risk having the UCA come in contact with the coil spring at full droop when using an extended travel coil over. Also the coils tend to have a greater diameter, thus requiring more clearance. There are a lot of moving parts in a small space in there.

Ride quality is subjective. I dont mind a stiff ride. With a lot of caster set, it does hit bumps on the street a bit hard, but it holds its heading. 10ply mud tires are most to blame for that though. It's been wheeling a couple times since the suspension upgrades, it done great. I can't comment so much for washboard roads, but if imagine to take a beating. The front 2.5 coilovers are beefy.

Marie, I'd love to hear your opinion. 5100's have been mediocre on previous trucks but I dont think I'd fully utilize $4000 kings.

I just took a quick glance over your thread and based on what I saw I don't think you would really utilize the capabilities of something like a King level 2 or similar. If you want to pm me your thoughts so far (so its all in one place) and I can look over it and do my best to assist you :)

Im slightly confused on the lifting of the truck and the shocks. Let me explain my confusion. If the truck is lifted 1.5" then the shocks need to increase travel by same amount or more. Correct so far? If down travel is increased, then up needs to be increased, or a larger/taller bumper stop needs to be installed to prevent shock from being crushed/damaged if truck bottons out? To lengthen shock travel, doesnt body of shock also need to be longer effectively giving you a longer (collapsed) total length?
Im considering Bil5100's and an AAL. But after thinking this through, and the lack of knowledge regarding OEM shock dimensions for comparisons, Im not so sure that I wouldnt be creating a "possible" problem with shock travel. That is also taking into consideration that I dont desire to change out UCA's or other parts.

You are not increasing travel. You are sacrificing down travel to increase up travel. Overall travel of the suspension remains constant.

Are the replacement shocks longer (BIL5100) vs. the OEM? if not, then why replace the OEM on the rear after the AAL ? Not being argumentative, just examining reduction in cost if the rear OEM shocks are still utilized.
If they are longer, (front and rear shocks) ,What keeps them from being damaged on bottoming of the suspension? Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this subject.

No worries, im far from an expert. The rear shocks are longer to accommodate the lift. My previous statement was in reference to the front.

These look like a good option... you can set for the height you want (for me an inch or so) and even compensate for the Tacoma lean right on the strut itself. If you get tire rub at the height you set, just raise it a bit more and go get an alignment.

I had an eibach lowered suspension on my bmw 328 track car years ago... it was well engineered and worked really well.

I might have to go for these coilovers up front and the rear pro-truck shocks to match.

IMO I even on top setting 2” lift front and 1.5” aal. I hear some members say way to stiff. Imo ride is stiffer but in a good way. Light off-roading and camping etc. Also no different ride from 3rd setting to 5th. Talked to Bilstein direct. Just my 2 cents. They make a lot of great kits. Find one you like and go for it.

Sorry but that’s impossible. Every time you move up a clip you are preloading the spring more. Ride will definitely change.

Well then tell me I really feel. I drive in the thing every day. Yes it’s stiffer but Like I said to each there own. It’s not terrible. We could talk about this all day. LOL. I’m also not a fussy Dude. What is stiff to someone else is fine with others. “That’s what she said “ LOL

Except you're not adding preload. The front 5100 shocks are phyically longer, fully extended, compared to stock. Raising the perch height only raises the suspension height.

That's not true. I have two 2018 Tacomas one on the 4th and thetthe other onson the 5th and the ride is the identical.both trucks are completely identical right down to the tires and wheels, with the only exception of one being a long bed and the other a short bed. The ride is great on both.

I also talked to Bilstein direct. The big misconception here with the 5100s is that they were made directly for OEM replacement to your stock off road shocks. They are meant to go with your OEM coil. That way with certain models you could achieve 2 inches of lift with the 4 x 4 models long bed. 4 x 2 they don’t recommend going to the top setting. And that’s what I’m going off. They also said aftermarket coils could cause different problems if they lose lift than the preload the aftermarket coil to achieve lift they lost. I figured I’d stick with oem coils and not worry about sag or other issues.
