Hey everyone, my battery light came on yesterday and had the battery replaced today. Light is still on, they ran a charging test and everything looks fine yet the light remains on.

So I'm guessing that I may have an alternator that's on it's way out and was wondering if anyone knew of a good quality remanufactured alternator for around the 200 range.

If anyone else has any ideas to why the light won't turn off, I'd highly appreciate the information.

    Thanks!

Do you have a voltmeter? If so, measure battery voltage. Then crank engine and measure again. Battery alone should be in the 12.5v range, with the engine cranked closer to 14v. If that shows good, turn the lights on and measure with the engine running. If the voltage is now low, the alternator is working, but not producing a lot of current. Voltage should be in the near 14v range (I have seen 13.5 to 14.5, anywhere in there is acceptable) with the engine running and the lights on. Anything less and the alternator has an issue.

When you say "they ran a charging test" what does that mean? A test on the battery or a test on the alternator?

I've used advanced and/or auto zone alternators for many years. Hard to go wrong with a lifetime warranty.
