I've got one of these I plan to install on my 21 TRD Pro, however I'm wondering what would be a good seal to use for around the edge where the snorkel body meets the fender? I'd like it to be reversible in case down the road if I needed to remove the snorkel, I could, without making a mess of the fender and/or paint. For now, this would be to keep tree bits/twigs out of that gap, due to where I have to park some of the time. I know there shouldn't be any large gaps there if it is installed right, although there is still one there. In looking around install threads, I've only seen one person do this, and they used black rtv sealant, although I have no experience removing this if I were to go that route... also clear silicone sealant comes to mind. Regardless, I have no experience in trying to remove either of these things from a painted body panel; anybody with more experience I welcome your input and ideas

So, how do you plan on reversing this part of the install? o_O

Also, RTV would be my choice for that application.

Having a snorkel on my truck I can't possibly see how it's "reversible". Once that big ass hole is in that panel there ain't no going back other then a replacement panel. RTV would work but it's also going to create a moisture trap. When you drill all the mounting/install holes just be sure to repaint all the bare metal and you should be fine. Mine (Airflow) has been on since 2012 with no problems. Good luck.

It’s not really a snorkel it’s a desert air filter. It moves the intake of air from down in the fender to higher on the truck. If your in the mud and dirt a lot it helps to not draw stuff into the filter that you are throwing up into the fender well. Some people just do it for the look but that’s personal preference. On an average truck it does absolutely nothing but looks cool with a rtt I guess? I don’t care for them at all but again just my preference.

Without trying to spark a raging inferno between the pro raised air intake crowd and the WTF are you screwing a log to your fender crowd, I see things beginning to smolder...:rofl:

Perhaps my wording was a little less than ideal from my original thought, hahaha I am fully aware of the hole in the panel, and yes, that certainly is a one way trip :sawzall::D I was thinking more as if the snorkel body itself needed to be removed and replaced off the panel itself (ie damaged from whatever, warranting replacement). That said, from reading up on the different snorkel options, apparently you can just about run over the ARBs without major damage... sooo presumably it is a far off thought/worst case scenario I had - trying to look ahead and save potential headaches for the future.

The idea of creating a moisture trap is a good point, and one which I had overlooked; as the back of the fender would still allow whatever in through the screw holes. I do have black RTV, however I'll ponder this a bit before I start cutting anything just yet...

As far as looks go, anything I add to the vehicle (for my case at least) I really intend to serve a purpose first, but of course it also needs to look good to me at least... and as a nice side effect I do like the look of a snorkel, although I have a sy-klone precleaner for the top and will ditch the stock intake. That works better than the stock intake, and as a bonus also looks better in my opinion! This will also be perfect for dusty logging roads in the hills and back country, far off any pavement!
