Don't have any experience with the Springfields (can't even buy them in this retarded excuse for a state) but my Beretta 92fs is solid as a rock. They tend to get a bad rap from military stories, but again those do not carry over to civilian use. It is a rock solid platform. The Sig classics are also excellent, but the polymer versions I have heard mixed reviews on and I'm not a fan of their reverse positions of the slide release and decocker.

Go to the shooting range and try out some pistols. I have an old 1911 AMT hardballer full size I tricked out as my carry pistol. I can group 12" at 50 yards (no Im not full of it, I practice). .45 is a man stopper. I read a story about a Marine that got shot in the chin with a 9MM and snatched the gun out of the Iraqi soldiers hand and beat the crap out of him. If that was a .45 he would be eating out of the other side of his neck. but get SOMETHING. You might never get the chance ever again with the way the socialists are taking over

I have an XD 9mm as well. Service size (4in barrel). 3000 rounds without a jam. No recoil at all. If you learn to double-tap, beats a single .40/.45 shot. Newer XD-M even has 19+1 rounds.

I also owned a Kimber Stainless GoldMatch II. This is a 1911 .45 pistol. Most accurate pistol I've owned. Great for target shoots. But I won't trust it with my life. I tried my best but I don't think I'll ever go back to a Kimber. Springfield TRP is a nice pistol though.

By the way, for concealed carry, you might want to look at the XD compact pistols (9mm/.40/.45). CC is really more of a grip length issue, and not so much a barrel length issue.

Found a local indoor shooting range where you can rent the lane for $10 and rent the firearm for $5. So I'm gonna go try that out. Never really done a whole lot of handgun shootin', so maybe the guys there can give me some advice. They have the SA XDs, Berettas, and Sigs, so maybe I can try several guns.

Ha Ha, posts like this make me laugh. Tell you what, you show me a man that can stop a 115 gr. bullet at 1025 fps with his chin and walk away. Trust me hoss, it is not going to happen. Even with full metel jacket nato ammo, it's not going to happen. FMJ, 9mm ammo is known for it's penitration, not knock down power. Put a defensive load in and you have a diff animal.

Oh, I speak from 9 yrs of Mil. exp.w/ tour of Iraq and 5 yrs with the Sarasota Sheriff's Office.
I can tell you 1st hand, you can't tell the diff in wound channel's from a full size load. .38, 9mm, .357, .40, .44, .45 ALL of these loads are " man stoppers". Dead is dead.

this is a good idea!!!! However most of the ranges i have rented from, the guns werent properly maintained or cleaned. They shot kind of like crap, i know a bunch of people like the beretta 92. the one i shot was terrible and i didnt like it i also shot a sig 1911 which i have wanted for a while now, the slide was sticking back everytime i fired it  but still a good experience!!!!!

I have mentioned this in other posts and I'll repeat it again here. You CANNOT compare military stories to civilian applications. Because of the Hague Conventions, the military is confined to the use of FMJ ammunition. With no ability to expand, a 9mm will go through the target and deposit no energy into it. This is overpenetration and the reason why 9mm sucks in this application. A .45 ACP round is big and slow and does not penetrate like the 9mm, thereby depositing most of its energy into the target. That's why .45s are superior in these situations.

However, once your talking civilian carry, military stories mean absolutely nothing! Hollow points, pointed soft points, exposed lead core, etc. will all expand and deposit most of it's energy into the target. Just as FrontSight said, you cannot tell the difference between a .38 and .45 in these cases. All of them will be of similar performance.

I did it again. Got tired of paying truck payments and gas and traded in for a 2015 Honda Accord Sport since I enjoyed my 2013 Sport so much.
    No shit.

Guys have been fucked up with "anemic" 9mm to the chin and guys have walked away after taking a slug to their chest.

If 9mm is so "anemic" someone volunteer to stand downrange 100 meters and hold a target while I try to hit said targe with my G17.

Quick Q: What difference does barrel length make? For example, the SA XDs I was looking at are a 45ap with a 4" barrel and a 9mm with a 5" barrel.

The 5'' will be a hair more accurate and the 9mm will have less recoil.

Where's the love for a good S&W Revolver around here?
