Hello Toyota community! I just purchased a 2009 Access Cab Tacoma with 16,000 miles. It is automatic and has the V6 4.0L engine. The CARFAX is perfect. The first owner averaged 3,000 miles per year. The truck is in excellent condition, both mechanically and cosmetically. I paid $22,000 and have three days to return the truck for a full refund, as long as I don't drive more than 150 miles. Was this a good or bad buy for me? I know the dealership is profiting from this transaction. That much is a given.

ill assume its a 2WD since you live in AZ, so i think that is a very a very average buy. Up here in MN, you could have gotten one for a bit cheaper cuz 2WDs arent really desired up here.

That seems pretty good to me, the truck has hardly ever been used it sounds like. The only negative is technically it is 4 years old, but really, I don't see that as a deal breaker for 22k, given that mileage. i would be curious though as to why they got rid of it in the first place.

22k seems fair, but a bit high. Like you said the dealer wants their money too.

My mom has a 05 with 70k miles, access cab, perfect condition. My wife just got an 07 4 Runner with 76k miles on it. Some people don't get out much and don't put many miles on their trucks. Hell my mom bought an 85 Monte Carlo and drove that until 2005, she only had 110k miles on it. I bet I put 10k of those miles on that Monte Carlo.

Are you happy with it, if so then just enjoy it and don't sweat what someone else in another part of the country paid.

When I bought my 06 in 09, it had 43,000 miles on it and I paid $19,999, and it was listed at about $21,000. I also live in Arizona and mine is also a 2WD 4.0L.

Considering the low miles, I'd be pretty happy. Does it also look like it was garaged? That can be a big deal here in Az. Our sun will do a number on a vehicle. Did you do any comparison shopping?

All in all, I'd be happy. You have a beautiful new truck you can call your's for a long time. Good luck.

Thank you everyone for weighing in on this discussion. To answer some of your questions, the truck is 2WD and has been garage kept. Username "Packrobottom", did the 25k you spent on the 2014 double cab include dealership fees? If so, I'm on the receiving end of a bad deal. My truck was 22k plus an additional 2k in dealership fees. I traded my car in for 2.5k and put 2k down in cash, financing the remaining 20.5k. Also, I've been doing some research and it seems as though the 2009 Tacoma's are prone to having radio failures. Many buyers of this truck have had there JBL radios replaced as many as four times before the issue was resolved. Just today, my radio turned itself on and I couldn't turn it off without shutting off the ignition. I have a bumper to bumper warranty for another year, which would cover this expense. I, however, am skeptical. This wasn't what I had in mind when I decided I wanted to buy my first Tacoma. Thoughts?

jtdenton, first of all welcome to TW!

Sounds like you are having remorse already. The question is have you put more than 150 mi. on it? If not, and if I were in that situation I would try to get out if I were not to end upside down. You got to be happy when you are spending that much.

Too much, you can buy new for 3-4k more if you don't want the TRD packages.

Returned the truck for a full refund. Got my car and 2k down payment back. Feeling great and looking forward to getting my first Tacoma! Gonna be more patient this time around. I know the right one is out there...

    So smart good job!

now email the internet sales manager of every dealership within driving distance with the color and exact truck you want. Shoot for like 25-26k for a 2014 prerunner doublecab before tax and license. Ask for invoice less like $500-1000. Once you get a price from one dealer in writing take it to others keep doing it till they won't match or beat. That's when you know you have decent deal. Then buy.

Do not be timid about walking out. At first some dealers will tell you you'll never find that price don't listen. Ask for every quote via email if they won't then leave.

If you are financing some of it and your credit is good/decent ask for 2-2.9%. They will offer like 3.9-4.7 or some horseshit. I just got 2.02% at toyota of orange.

Be patient! Buy new there is little point to buying a tacoma used due to its resale value.
