I would make sure that you take the time to find a gun that fits. I have shot a ton of skeet, trap, & sporting clays, and finding a gun that fits you well if half the battle to being a good shot.

Find the model of gun you like (personally I'm a smaller framed guy so the Browning Gold's and Beretta 390's fit me really well), then look around for a used gun.

Just remember if you spend a little bit more for a quality gun I think you'll be much happioer in teh long run.

Not to make and brand specific recommendations, but I have a Browning Gold Sporting Clays gun that I've put a ton (10,000+) rounds through with no problem at all.

    neglect, mostly.
so what are you getting/did you get OP? and i read the first page of this thread am im gonna reiterate what tigerfan said. and that's - a nice expensive shotgun that does this and can shoot whatever shells does not make it a good clay shooting gun.
ive been a clay target shooter for 10 years, and im pretty damn good at it. (i suck with a rifle, so don't think im bragging too much). OP do you know what i shoot skeet with? a 120 dollar wal mart New England Firearms pump 12 gauge. i got it several years ago and got used to it, it's weight, its choke (modified), and everything about it. i can't miss with the old ugly heavy thing. ive shot tons of shotguns, one of them a professional trap setup and i cant hit shit with some of them. half of its in your head, they other half is just for what gun works for you. try them out before you buy.

    The OP's right.
The Saiga is more of a home/self defense weapon, not something that would be useful for trap and/or skeet.

    I own 2 autos (Xtrema and m2000) 2 pumps an O/u and a SxS.

For a cheap auto get a Steoger model 2000. Ive put at least 20k rounds through mine in some of the most harsh conditions out duck hunting. Drop it in water, mud, etc and never have problems. I bought mine the week they came out about 6 years ago and abuse the hell out of it. Shoot mainly 3" heavy steal loads through it but it does cycle the 2 3/4" bird shot just fine too.

granted its not a SBE2 or Xtrema but its also half the price and if it can hold up to what ive put it through then the range should be no big deal.

yeah, thats an over/under game most of the time. my best friends uncle is some east coast trap shooting champ or whatever. he's got a $3000 beretta over/under with a $1000 custom this and that to it. he's a machine on it.

You got me there, didn't know the OP was going for state or national champ! Thought he was just going out with the boys and kill some clays.

A good inexpensive auto, Remington 1187. I borrow my dads 1100 sometimes and like it. He has Benelli m2 that I am in love with, and wil be my next purchase. For now I mostly shoot my Ithaca 20g over/under for game. For trap I have a Browning Citori Plus Gold 12g o/u, and that thing is bad ass.
