I know harbor freight isnt the best stuff out their but if you put 8000ibs winch on a 9000ibs mount it should be fine. You definatly cant beat the price.

I used to have a Warn 8000 mounted to their portable mount on my 86 Toyota Xtracab until some dirtbag broke into my truck and stole it. Replaced it with a Warn XD9000i and mounted it to a Trans4mer mount and tack welded the nuts so you would need a grinder to get them off. Portable winches are convenient but are easy to steal and your insurance may not cover it if it’s not permanently mounted. I found I used my winch more often to help other people but when you need it it is invaluable, especially if you are alone. You might want to think about a dual battery setup too. A winch will suck your battery down pretty quickly and then you are still stuck with a dead battery. IMO you should save some coin and buy a good winch. My winch is now about 20 years old and going onto its third ride, as soon as my new mount arrives by UPS it goes on the Taco with a dual battery setup also. It looks a little weather worn but it has never failed me. Nor for that matter the Warn winch on my Yamaha Grizzly. That one has had more abuse than the XD9000i. Make sure you decide which mount you want before you buy a winch as the integrated solenoid units won’t fit a lot of the popular Taco winch bumpers and they don’t make a front receiver for the multi mount unit unless you also mount the Trans4mer. And the price on the Warn 8000 sounds pretty good. That would be a good unit just perhaps a little slower and you may need to stop and let it cool off during long pulls.

I'd jump on that if it is a sound unit... I believe they are about 3 times that new. My new Trans4mer winch mount just arrived today and I am waiting on my dual battery setup from 12voltguy.com...

Firestone Airbags in rear, with Firestone compressor.
I just picked up a Smittybile XRC 10 Comp 10,000 lb winch with synthetic line and Hawse fairlead for $469 from 4WheelParts, during a truck show in Dallas. I figured it was a steal as synthetic line is $225 and a fairlead is $50. Lifetime warranty on everything except solonoid and line.

When I opened it up to clock the handle, it said T-Max on the inside.

Sounds good brutal...I'm guessing the 8 in xrc8 stands for 8000lbs? For a truck that can only tow 6500, I'd go with that too. As far as wiring, I'd check the search engine....I know they have a shit load of posts about that (don't mean to be a search nazi)...Good luck though.

You will more then likely have to run power and ground wires to the back of the truck.

i just ordered the xrc8 for $269 free shipping and free cover
the ground must come right from the battery????
i might make a cable with clips to the battery for the winch as it will not be mounted in place at all times
idk ill see when i get it

usually bolts through the face of the bumper, however if its on a receiver plate, then there just needs to be a vertical surface on the front of the mount plate for it to bolt to. I think any aftermarket receiver mount should be equipped to hold the fairlead.

yea most of those mounts will already have the place on there for the fairlead to bolt to.

and krookz... that seems to be a common problem with the xrc series, i got water in mine and it corodded the contacts and it quit. i called them up and they sent me a brand new solenoid for free. in the mean time i took mine apart and cleaned it, sprayed it with lithum grease and put it back together and sealed with rtv and its been working fine since, plus now have a brand new spare in the toolbox just in case
