So, it has come to this...

Some drunk C U Next Tuesday pulled out in front of Mrs. GJ and I about 2 weeks ago and got creamed in the front drivers side. Ill spare you most the details of the aftermath, typical drunk asshole stuff, but she had a 1 year old in the car with her. The infant was uninjured, as were we. Police report stated it was her 3rd offense. Real POS citizen.

Started looking for replacement options pretty much the next morning since I knew there was possibility that it would be declared a total loss by insurance. The collision center estimated $25,300 repair, not including hidden damage. Surprisingly they said they did not think there was any frame damage. Insurance valued the truck at $29,866 plus about $1200 in owner optioned equipment for the wheels, new tires and 6112/5160 struts and OME leafs. Was hoping for more from the extras but they use the receipts and calculate a value so it was not really negotiable. They decided it would likely cost more than the repair estimate once any hidden damage or other extra costs were added so it was deemed a total loss and I was sad.

After a few minutes of searching the typical use auto sites I realized that a 2014-2015 DCLB 4x4 without a bunch of miles was going to be difficult to find outside of the far west side of the country. Asking/selling prices were pretty nuts, too, as indicated by the insurance valuation for mine. At least I made a few thousand $ on it if you can look at it like that. I reluctantly gave up most hope for finding a suitable replacement 2nd gen and resigned to looking at 3rd gen Tacomas since options were far more plentiful. I ended up finding a low miles (42k) 2016 TRD Sport with every option besides parking assist for a few hundred more than insurance paid out, so that was nice. This new truck will complete the trifecta of owning one of every gen tacoma. Someday I wouldn't mind getting a Toyota Pickup. Anyway, I'll be hanging around in the turd gen forum, trying to mitigate the lackluster torque curve of the 3.5L v6 and generally learning what I can about them. I'll miss you though, and thanks for all the help and advice in the past! I'll be back now and then to talk shit (and envy not having my 2015 anymore).

In former glory about a month before the crunch.

Well, that sucks. Love the booze on the roof. She was obviously a "top shelf" gal.

Went through your experience years ago when a speeding school bus hit my wife's unoccupied car. No kids on board but the accident was reported as "injury" because the driver went into shock and was transported to the hospital. It occurred at a medical university campus. My wife worked at the nursing school, and the hospital was a quick walk away. The "injured" driver was hired to transport kids around the campus and was speeding on a curve when she lost control and hit 4 cars--ours twice. Pretty sure the gal's job loss was the only real casualty.
