Yeah I know-the 2004 was perfect. That particular one there would be my 1st pick.

Ram's are nice. But whatever you do, don't trying driving it through anything swampy. Those things are so damn heavy, they get stuck right away. I know from experience.

This, all of the motors were solid and there weren't awkward bodylines. I'm not big on the idea of buying something that hasn't been thoroughly tested by the general population and the idiots out there who like saying the phrase, "hey watch this!"

If I were to buy a new F-150, for my current uses, I'd go with the 3.7 regular cab standard bed. Slightly better mileage than I've got now with more power and I don't really use the backseat for much besides my backpack and frisbees.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
This, don't get me wrong, GM has made some awesome cars and trucks in the past, but anything after 2008 I won't go near. I love Duramaxes, if I needed a fullsize for towing and hauling heavy, thats the way I'd go!

You'll be surprised. The Lexus LS had 54 defects per 100 vehicles, meaning half of Lexus LS sold in 2011 had a defect within three months. That's considered absolute industry best, because the average is 107 defects per 100 vehicles. Toyota-branded vehicles on average had 101 defects per 100. Dodge-branded vehicles were industry-worst, with 137 defects per 100, on average. Basically every two Dodge vehicles had three defects between them within three months.

It's an interesting survey. Within the first three months of purchase, Jeeps were more reliable than Scions.

I do have a question, how does one tell a particular model year when many model years look alike?

I got 450K+ out of an F150. Were I to make the jump back to a full size, it would be an F-series (model dependent on my needs). Grew up driving Ford trucks, drove Rams and Chevys for work over the years, none of them have ever held a candle to a Ford.

I was talking about the engine being the only thing that would last on the truck

    Ford really?
Problem is people tend to forget what it was like owning domestic. When I looked for a 4x4 for wife we looked at Ford Expedition and Tahoe/Suburban -Denali first. Oh boy that was some crazy experience. Expeditions where all junk. Even 3 year old expedition sounded like piece of steel dragged on brick road. After looking at 4 Expeditions we quickly ditch that idea. So next I figured GM/Chevy must be good because so many people are driving them. We spent year and looked at tons of Tahoe/Suburbans. Its amazing how low quality can get. I was desperate so we started test driving used Sequioas. What a difference. You could be driving 8 year old Sequoia and it just drove so nice with everything working as it supposed to. If I need to go fullsize I am goign with Tundra. My friends who own F-150 have constant problems with them. One got to the point that he can not sell his F150 because engine constantly gets misfire error code. tends to run on random number of cylinders dependign on the time of the day (and thats not ecoboost). Its easy to think abotu Unicrons filled domestic vehicles when you driving Toyota. Then you buy domestic and reality bites you. I have my Toyota for 6 years and truck was in dealership 3-4 times few times for free oil change at the beginning, and one time to check on frame. No major repairs runs like new and I enjoy quiet (no vibes, no grinding, no clunks, no nails in the can sounds) ride. Its amazing that truck after 6 years and 50k can sound and drive brand new.

As part of that TSB Toyota

^Reportedly the UAW assembly workers at the Fremont plant were doing some of these things to sabotage the vehicles. The bad behavior went away after Toyota partnered with GM in the NUMMI plant in 1984.

Have you considered a different horse trailer? If you are looking for something up to four horses that a Tacoma can handle, you should look at the Fautras trailers.

Ford F150 would be my choice... first time I've heard anything negative about the eco-boost, though. The Dodge diesel 6spd is the tow king if that's your deal.... Chevy's lost my vote for ever based on the bail out crap... And the 08 Tundra I had was traded in on my current truck (the tundra sucked real bad) Good luck!

I've heard a decent number of truck people be very skeptical of the ecoboost engine because you're trying to make a smaller engine do something it's not really supposed to do. Their assessment was that it might be ok if you used it's towing capabilities infrequently but that if you need to make frequent use of it's towing capaicities you should pick a truck with an engine better designed for that such as the 5.0. Also you need to consider that you can't treat a turbo the same way you would treat a regular engine when it comes to warm up and cool down times. A lot of people don't know that and it could lead to some issues down the road.

The F-150 is a nice truck.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
my father was towing a Mercedes with his 450 Eco boost(that's what he told me) and he stated that he blew his engine going over the skyline drive in VA. said he got stuck for 3 hours. Said he would never buy Eco boost again

A turbocharged engine, if built to be beefy, can be more durable than a larger naturally aspirated engine. Most diesels are turbocharged after all. If you tow in the mountains, the 3.5 Ecoboost is not degraded as much as the 5.0 at altitude.

Its been almost 8 months since trading in my 06 DC Taco 4x4 for my 11 DC Tundra. The truck has been great, tows very well in the mtns. Gets the same mileage as my Tacoma did & even better when towing. No issues.
I towed a lot with the tacoma in the winter & it was a great truck since I bought it new but we moved up to a bigger trailer.
I was able to get a nicely configured V8 4x4 for 28k, the flip cost me only 10k after trade.

Getting the same numbers for my trade-in when looking at other comparable full size trucks wasn't happening & really liked the tundra for the price.
    No regrets.
I did like the GM & the Ford but it came down to the best deal.
Also used USAA pricing which helped.
Good luck to the OP whatever you decide.
