Getting some new tires installed today. Wanted to get some feedback regarding Goodyear's Road Hazard warranty.

On paper, it seems worth it:

Brand new tire replacement for the first 25% of the tread. After that it will be prorated depending on remaining tread.

    Cost for warranty is $92

    Anyone actually use it?

Tires are Duratracs 265/70/17 Load E

Let me see if I get this correctly:

    Example:

50% tread remaining, blew a sidewall.

Replacement tire would be 50% off current msrp?

That's how I understood it when I purchased it for my Duratracs. I paid $25 a tire

Not yet, I just got them a couple weeks ago. However, I did use the regular GY warranty to upgrade from the stock adventure tires that were chucking so I figured what the heck and purchased their road hazard warranty.

Sweet. How'd you do that and what did you end up paying.

Unfortunately, I have the Firestone tires

Two tires already had chunks of tread missing (less than 3700 miles) and they were already going to replace them for free. I had previously opened up a case (1st 1500 miles) on all four for bubbles/ripples on the sidewalls and I asked if I could just warranty all four since I wasn't happy with the defects and they agreed to the upgrade for the price difference of the new tires. The total cost was like $190 including the road hazzard.

This is what I did, but it was an independent shop and I went with Wildpeaks. I typically don't buy warranty, but on tires I always end up doing it for no more than what it costs since I've used it so much over the years. Same w/AAA :)

I've used it several times; enough to pay for it the few times I bought tires and didn't need it. It is pretty cheap insurance.

In 2012 I bought a set of tires and about 6 months after I bought them I got a flat on the way home. I found a nail in the tire and put on the spare. The next day I went to Goodyear and got a brand new tire installed for free. Around 2006 I bought a set of tires and had two flats within a year; both replaced for free. A $25 extended warranty on a $50 blu-ray player is probably a bad risk/reward calculation. A $25 warranty on a $200 tire is money well spent. Sometimes you pop a tire and don't have a couple hundred laying around; it's nice to know you can just go down the street and get a new one put on.

The more time goes by the less they pay but that is more time to save up for that eventuality. It is when you get a flat 3 months after you drop $800 that sucks the most. Also, when you buy 4-5 tires you use a coupon, rebate, etc...when you need to replace one you usually have to pay full price because you are only buying one.

I always got roadhazard in the past and never needed it. So my last set I passed on it. 5 months later ruined a tire on some crap that fell off a flatbed.

Let us know how the duratracs are. I think they look awesome. I am mostly worried about wet traction on pavement though; it rains every day here and I don't want my back end sliding all over the place. The stock adventurers have been excellent in the rain. I am still waiting on my armor to do a serious off road trip.
