In looking at some 285/70/R17 E load range take offs that have only been ran for one week and I’d be getting a smoking deal on them for $168/tire for 5 of em. In a first time taco owner, 2018 TRD OR DCLB, 3” fox DCS up front, 2” Icon RXT in back. Lift just showed up and sourcing tires and wheels, I think I’m gonna go SCS Ray 10 17’s and fro. My research 285/70/17 or 255/80/17. I’m nervous about going load range E’s and going blind looking at tires, and weights, and mileage. Truck will see lots of off roads use, heavy snow, mud, rocks and will be primarily my exploring and hunting rig and I struggle making it vet thing a priority a)flat resistance b)mileage c)tread life d)safety on ice are at the tip of my list but no tire seems to have it all. The tires I’ve looked at that seems to have what I want are only in load E and are at the heavier side of E at 60+ lbs. any suggestions? I do not want duratracs again as I have had lots of flats in an SL and D load on previous trucks and very poor tread wear despite constant rotation. ST Maxx seem perfect but so heavy and do I need an E or C? KO2 are overrated it seems but also harsh ride especially in E. The C’s are the lightest I’ve found at 51# though? Falken at3w seem awesome but 63# in a C even, GoodYear Ultraterrain still heavy at 58# and again, do I need an E? Toyo AT3 can get lighter at about 53-55# but are they going to resist puncture like e toyo MT? Paying for the name? My head is spinning and maybe somebody needs to tell me to go C or E and whether I should be concerned with the weight being that I’m getting ultralight wheels?? Any input would be great!

If you are that worried about sidewall cuts I’d go with a tire with 3 ply sidewall. I believe these are 2 ply

    wanna be mods

Yup, E Load are only 2 ply on the sidewall
. If this isn't your DD, I'd go with something heavier duty.

SCS's are pretty damn light wheels, so take that into account (not sure what stock OR wheel weight is, as mine came with aftermarket from dealership).

Just got back from @Discount Tire and I can't say enough...these guys take great care of us customers (regardless of tire selected). I didn't have a chance to run through a self-service car wash before my appointment...and the wheels were still caked in mud, grass, etc. The guys busted out the hose and sprayed down each tire/wheel ahead of balancing.
    • Newly rotated 5th has 13/32 (uniform wear)
    • Driver side both were at 12/32 (uniform wear)
    • Passenger side front was at 11/32 (uniform wear)
    • Passenger rear was at 12/32 (uniform wear)

In the market for some new shoes and came across this thread. Love your setup. What offset are your F5’s? And what lift are you running?

Had a set of LT 265/75R16 UltraTerrain tires installed on my 2019 TRDOR Tues the 27th.
So far about 60 miles on them, 25 of that at 65+ mph on new pavement.
    Butt dyno review...
    1. very smooth and quiet
    2. ride much better than the stock tires (stockers about 50% gone) even with them being an LT
    3. most of the annoying little rattles and noises in the truck are gone, small bump compliance is much better than the stock tires
    4. drivability and transmission performance seem to be only slightly affected

I recently retired after 28 years as a Euro Car Tech, 20+ of those years as an installer for Tire Rack. As a result, I'm extremely anal about work being done on my stuff. I have to say that I can't find fault with my local America's Tire Store's work and I double checked EVERYTHING in the parking lot before I left.

    Very happy so far

    YMMV RON

Are there any deals going on for the UltraTerrian's? They look like great tires! Cant decide between these or K02s. @Discount Tire

I put a set on my Tacoma about a week ago and so far REALLY like them. The old Pirelli's still had a lot of tread but were getting close to the expiration date. I don't drive my Tacoma as many miles as I used to. I'm thinking they were $167 at Discount tire. My total with taxes and instillation came to just at $900.

But just to confuse you more, had I seen these I might have gone with the Toyo's

Toyo Tire Open Country A/T III | Discount Tire

Price is within $2/tire so price is a toss-up. I think both are good tires.

IMO the KO2's are overpriced and overrated. You don't really need an E rated tire and that is the only option on the BFG's. But then again if you just want them they are OK. I've used E rated tires in the past. They cost more and provide a little extra toughness. Ride can be a little compromised, but isn't terrible.

    beach? jealous....

I swapped them over from my TRD OR wheels. Two tires needed to be rotated on the wheel to get them balanced without excessive weight. Not sure if it's the tire or the wheel? They did get them to balance though.

Hello, I am also shopping 265/75 R16 tires and the UTs are under consideration here as well as the Duratrack, both potentially in E1 but I could use some advice on that.
Mainly road but the offroad stuff is very rocky.
    thanks!

Almost 2 years with the Ultraterrains and still impressed. I’ve put around 25,000 miles on them, rotated every 5k and they honestly still look nearly new. Whenever I wear these out I will most definitely be buying the exact same tire. 3574F94D-39D3-4E2F-847C-1D813AEAEF39.jpg
