I've been a believer in GY tires since my first Tacoma back in the 90s. This will probably be my last set. I have always ran the E load range.

I like'm and got one more set after getting down to 9/32 tread depth. Replaced at that depth due to a long trip and wanted fresh tires. Discount Tire gave me credit towards new so there's that but could not answer why it took such little time to go through half tread life. This will be my last set...unless this set made in Brazil does better than my American set. It took around 20,000 miles to get from 18/32 (brand new) to 9/32. And I religiously rotate every 5000 miles and run 33-34lbs PSI.

9/32? Yep. The tacoma is our adventure wagon. It sees long stretches of pavement to get to where we're going. Then on to rock strewn/washboard back roads to get to the back country.

Maybe I'm expecting too much from tires after spending the coin I did.

These tires shit all over the stock tires. Great in the snow so far. I got these mounted on some FN Countersteers 2 weeks ago by my local DT:

@Discount Tire I am looking for a daily driver 265/75/r16 and will be driving a 750 round trip once a month to my farm in my 2022 SR. I have to cross a creek and have had rocks puncture street tires a couple times. I don't do any hard four wheeling but want something that will be decent MPG and give me good off road capability. I run 33" KO2s on my old CJ5 and love them. The only KO2 in that size is an E rated tire. Would the SL fit the bill better than an E tire for my needs? Can I get a quote on four Ultra Terrains? Thanks. This is my first post in Tacomaworld.

    First off welcome to TW!

We are sure you will find a ton of useful information and very helpful members should you have any questions.

We would love to earn your business and there are several tires that would work well for you. There is certainly going to be a compromise in your situation since an E rated tire would offer better protection but lower fuel economy, and the SL is going to be the opposite. There are several tires though like the Goodyears that offer a great balance of the 2. PM on the way

I wouldn't put an E load tire on an otherwise stock Tacoma.

You will love the 265/75/16 Ultraterrain's in SL. A little taller than stock, you will lose about 1mpg (about 2mpg hit if you go with that tire + a lift), but I've been extremely happy with mine. Low noise, great off road, wearing very lightly.

Had a set on my 1st Gen and liked them, so I decided to get another set (265/75/16 SL) on my ‘13. Happy so far on this rig. I like them much better than the TA KO2 E’s. I’m going to experiment with air pressure though. Currently at 35 and seeing lack of contact on outside tread; both front and rear.

I have the same tire on my '05, running 32psi and seeing even wear. I rotate every 5K, forget how many miles but I can check tomorrow if you're interested.

Update to my post above -- the tires have 15K miles and 12/32" tread depth (were 16/32" when new).

Logger: if you're not wearing the outer edge of the tread, you're not cornering hard enough. Put the spurs to it! :D

Sooooo...... Lurking on the thread for a while now. Probably 30-60 days out from new tires. 2018 TRD Pro with the original OEM Goodyear Wrangler's. Got 40K out of them. I think I have narrowed it down to a 265/75/16 SL set of either Goodyear Ultraterrain's or Firestone Destination A/T2. My driving breaks down to 85% highway and 15% farm. No real off-road action, but I do think an aggressive tread pattern looks good on the truck. One big difference is that the Firestone's have a 55K Limited mileage warranty and the Goodyear's have none (I think that Discount has some sort of certificate that you can buy for a warranty through them) I get that posting here may get me a biased answer but wanted to see if there were any strong reactions to either of these choices or if I am overlooking something obvious.

The 265/75 is a great tire size and works with most all Gen 3 Tacomas. As far as tire choice, both of those are solid options and tend to work well for many folks. There are also a few others that you may want to consider as well. We are happy to help further PM on the way.

As far as being biased... We might be, but only a little bit :D

Those Firestones seem to be very popular and were near the top of my short list until I discovered UltraTerrains. Having said that -- and the following is just my personal opinion -- I never put much stock in warranties based on tread life. A good tire is a good tire regardless of how long the manufacturer estimates it will last. Also, I never get a lot of miles from any tire -- too much cornering, I suppose.

It's been my understanding that if you wear out a tire during the mileage warranty period, your replacement will be pro-rated based on full retail price, not on your discounted purchase price. So your allowance may be less than you counted on.

Just quoted at 169 x tire. Plus all the extras is this a good tire? Is this better or same as the workhorse?

Thinking of going from Falken Wildpeak to the Ultraterrain both 285/70/17. Has anyone done something similar with a good outcome? I also can’t seem to find them with black lettering do the only come in white lettering?
