    A driver is crossing a bridge 1 mile long in a large truck. The bridge can only hold 14,000 pounds, which is the exact weight of the truck + its contents. There are no other vehicles, people, etc., on the bridge or roadway. The truck's driver drives the truck halfway across the bridge and stops. A bird lands on the truck.

    Does the bridge collapse?

    No, because critical structures such as bridges are required by the FHWA to utilize a factor of safety of at least 2. :D

    No, a 14,000 lb truck that drove for a 1/2 mile would have burned enough gas to offset the bird's weight... assuming you're not talking about a very well-fed condor :rolleyes:
