Perhaps this is an overly OCD question, but I'm wondering whether the integrated GoPro mount is special in some regard. In other words, in terms of "stickiness", does it just use the regular GoPro mount adhesive or did Toyota use some other method (stronger, perhaps) to mount it to the windshield?

I don't know for sure, but my guess would be rear view mirror glue.

Thanks!. You're probably right. The reason I'm asking this is because I bought an adapter that allows me to mount my phone on the GoPro Mount (instead of using a real GoPro camera). According to GoPro, you can remove their standard mount by applying heat to it. Considering the mount is on the windshield and therefore susceptible to sunlight heat, I was wondering just how strong the adhesive is. The last thing I want is the mount to become dislodged with my phone installed on it.

I've recently had my kids' GoPro hanging up there (Scout Project) in about 75 degree weather with a large battery attached. Much heavier than my S7 Edge. No problems. My kids aren't exactly gentle while attaching and removing the camera and the mount didn't budge. Doesn't seem as if it is attached with a rubbery adhesive. Seems more like rear-view mirror stuff. I'm not saying it won't come off. Heck, Toyota cannot even properly attach the hood. But it does seem pretty strong.

Which adaptor? I want to mount my iPhone to it for GPS use.

Cool :) I really like mine so far. It keeps the phone very stable/rigid while driving, so you get the feeling the phone is part of the truck, which it is after mounting, I guess. LOL

I used my gopro with the mount a few weekends ago camping in Yosemite, driving into the valley, I turned the camera on and got some amazing shots of el capitan, half dome, etc..

This was a good purchase. I sort of wish it tilted left to right, but I can see it fine and it is very stable.

No special mirror glue for this mount. It is the standard vhb adhesive mount that comes with your gopro when you purchase it.

Slightly off topic, but the ball joint buckle is a great addition to the gopro mount. Give a bunch of flexibility for camera angles.
