GoPro mount repurposing

I thought there was a guy selling them but he discontinued/stopped selling them. I guess by wiring under the headliner, the bulk of extra stuff is hidden from view. The adapter sounds a lot easier tho...

 

The adapters are called mirror taps. They can be had on Amazon and EBay. There isn’t any bulk to really speak of. Wiring is simple as a true plug and play.

 

Unless I'm missing something, these don't convert down to 5VDC (USB) which my dashcam requires so not useful for my application or a proper GoPro.

 

Not sure I’ve seen one for a USB or not actually. There are plenty out there for radar detectors and dash mount cameras. Seem those connectors are very common.

whats the difference between something like this and a fuse tap? trying to learn my way around car wiring i got some pretty cool ideas but i need to know im not gonna short my ecu or something before i start tapping into anything.
