How did you learn to get the settings down for each different environment you are in? REI has GoPro classes, i might check one out. Thats the hardest part for me is getting the settings down. Did you take any classes or how did you learn that? My videos never come out that clear!

Lots of trial and error, and part of the clarity comes in editing. Tinkering with contrast, smoothing, saturation, etc., helps a lot. but for the core video itself (much like my damn truck) - lots of trial and error.

I use it to record in cab. If something were to happen, I could prove I wasn't doing something I shouldn't like texting or whatever. I have a regular dash cam for forward recording.

I'm gonna get a go pro. I like what it's done for amateur video, and I like tacomas, and I really like that a collaboration exists. Plus there's a ton of shit in my daily wanderings that need to be seen. No one ever believes me, now I'll have it all on video. Now, in the third gen forum, way back, before these trucks were even released, there was a thread hating on these go pro mounts, saying basically how it's a 4 dollar piece of marketing shit etc. So much ire for just a piece of plastic. Everyone was pissed. But I think it's rad because Tacoma people in general do shit that's worthy of camera time. F150 owners certainly dont do anything of note. Ever. That's why THEY didn't get a go pro mount with their truck. Who wants to watch a dude watch wrestling on local access tv. No one. So WE got one. And what I think is most neat about all this, is that 30 years from now someone is gonna sell a mint condition 3rd gen, and the fact that it STILL has a factory go pro mount is gonna make it the sweetest most legit buy ever. Some kid is gonna get a used 3rd gen. Go pros won't even exist anymore. And he's gonna be glowing bragging to all his friends how it STILL even has the factory go pro mount.

i guess you could use the mirror but i'm not sure of the volts it is putting out. I just use a dual USB in the power socket; looks awful but the regular USB port for the truck recognizes it as a camera and will not charge while it is recording.

just search "action camera" on ebay. I got my wife a decent one for her Tundra around $60 shipped (most are compatible with GoPro mounts) 720p is really all you would need and the GoPro style camera has been around long enough that even the cheap china knockoffs will get the job done. I did have to use one of the GoPro sticky mounts because the one that came with the knockoff camera was not 3M and did not hold up well to the Florida sun. Hers even has a screen on the back and an actual menu, not just cycling two buttons like GoPro

I use it every time I drive my Taco! I mount a Garmin virb XE and use it as my dash cam. Works great!

Really easy to use. Especially if you get the LCD back screen. Just depends how much you want to spend. I found my hero 5 black for 250. I love it and love the fact that you don't need a case and the screen is built in.

Those are becoming more and more obsolete (if its a radar detector, looks to be). Most departments use laser these days, not radar. If you pick up a laser signal, it's already too late because that means they're locking you in already.

When I had one, I picked up automatic door signals from retail stores more than anything. It did give me a warning for the few times they actually used a radar gun as opposed to laser, but very few do now.

My new one I got last year is a Hero 4 session. You literally push one button to record. It is only turned on when taking pictures/video and is relatively cheap since the Hero 5 session came out. No need for a case since it is waterproof; it comes with a skeleton housing for easy mounting

IMO buy a Ion Air Pro 2 or 3, much cheaper and nearly identical footage.

Here's a recent video I took using the Windows movie maker to edit. Still new at editing so don't be too harsh on me ;)

Following this thread, just got a Hero Session yesterday.
I'm concerned about leaving it in place during the hot days with the heat buildup inside the truck.
I too wondered how to remove the mount last year, and now will be using it.

I fashioned my own cellphone mount using a GoPro base to tripod screw mount and a cellphone mount to tripod mount. Now I have a cellphone / camera / dashcam/ rear seat cam ( for kid watching ) / tv :) I don't own a GoPro but that thing is neat.
