I went on a road trip with another vehicle who had one and it was fine for highway distances, even with a decent size gap between us at times. It's not going to perform as well as a vehicle mounted CB because the interference of the metal body and the shorter antenna; but it will do well enough to work on the trails.

What's the point in having a PA speaker? I've always wanted to know.

I always see people wanting it but for what reason? My buddy said his friend used to have one & it was fun yelling at people on the street & stuff. Ya ok, other than for childish goofing around is it really that useful?

Last time at Gorman when the dude got stuck in the mud pit, I think blackhawk was talking through his PA, I seriously could not understand one word he said.

I have a Cobra 75 and I wish I had a PA output...It's helpful to use to yell at the knuckleheads without CB's! Seriously though, if you have a quality enough unit that you can be understood, it's useful to communicate with other vehicles. I've had times on the trail where it would've been helpful, especially with oncoming traffic that's not part of your group.

That's what I ended up getting too simply because I could disconnect the unit & put it away when not in use. I may get a HAM radio later on & don't want my cab cluttered up with units.

Thanks, I see how the PA could be useful in that case. Guess I don't do enough trail riding where there's that many people for it to be useful for me personally. Only at Gorman with you guys is where I encounter oncoming traffic. I'll let you guys do the yelling. ;)

But like you said, everyone should get at least a handheld if they plan on going every so often. Should work find as long as we don't get seperated to far apart. Very useful & I hated not having a CB last time so I had to get one. Even a vehicle mounted unit is pretty cheap, a full set up can be had for less than even what just the Cobra 75 costs.

I heard it just fine, just couldn't understand what he was saying. Maybe it's just me cause I rarely understand what they're saying over the PA at work.

Judging by people's reaction that day, no one else seem to understand what he was saying either. I guess it is the placement of the speaker, clarity of the user's voice, & speaker quality that makes the difference.

I'll buy a big ass bull horn & mount it to my roof!

If you guys are looking for a cheap CB

I got mine from wal-mart Cobra 19 Ultra III or check Amazon you can find it for like 20- 30$ its a nice lil nothing to crazy set up.

all you need to by is the Antenna. and for that I went with a wilson 4' antenna and good deal I spend 55$ on it and works sweet. I bought a PA speaker for like 10$ and my local Truck stop..
