    I was thinking the same thing. Test drive a turd gen and if you hate it that makes your decision really easy.

    Keep it!

    If your folks don't drive it much - have them put non-ethanol gas in it. Definitely use that gas for storage, no need for additives or stabilizers.

    Also, if you/they do store it:
    • Don't have them jack it and have the suspension just hanging, it's not designed for that. There's flat stopper cradles you can get or they could just take 'er out so often to rotate. Chances of flat spots are slim over the course of a year with modern tires;
    • Hook up a battery tender or have them remove the battery and put it on a trickle charger;
    • Lube all maintenance locations before you leave;
    • Change oil and before starting 'er up if in long-term storage.
    Good Luck and thank you for your service :hattip:

    Keep it and please never sell a Toyota and buy a Jeep. You'll regret it.

    Sell. Invest the $$ in some short term accounts.

    In a year, you will have a nice down payment for your next ride.

    Storage of a vehicle is tough on the mechanics. My motorcycle was in 100% daily ride condition before I went to China in 2014. Its been in storage ever since. Before it is road ready, it needs many maintenance/repair/replacement work. Unfortunately, life has intervened to keep me from giving the motorcycle the attention it needs to become road ready. :( :annoyed:

    You could sell it and invest that money into your SDP "savings deposit program" through the military while you are deployed. Access through your finance office or mypay. I think the SDP nets you a 10%gain?

    Just a thought.

    The military offers a savings account with a 10% return!? That just seems WAY too good to be true, but super lucky for you enlisted guys if that is true.

    I dont think its only for enlisted. I think its for any military member, both E's and O's. Something to check into.

    Ah, that's for combat situations only and has a minimum amount and appears to be only semi-liquid. But man, that's a fantastic option for anyone deployed in a combat zone. If I were in that position I'd be putting ALL my cash there as there's nowhere else you're going to reliably get a return like that.

    Exactly. Its deff a good option. I figured for when someone says they are "deployed" that its in a combat zone. If not i consider that an extended tdy. Lol too bad that its capped at 10k. I think your right though. Once you put it in, you might not be able to take it out until you come back from your deployment.

    Another option is to part out as many of the mods you can and sell the off for additional cash. (Should be easy to sell) then sell your truck since generally you dont get as much with a heavy modded truck to a dealer.

    But if are absoultely happy with your 2nd gen truck and want to keep it for life then just hold what ya got.

    Keep it just dont store it at the on post storage. When i went to Afghanistan i drove it home from polk and left it in nc while i was gone and it was nice to come back to the states with a vehicle to drive and not be like the privates coming back and buying some 24% apr challenger....just my 2 cents

    Unless he wants to go 4Runner, could grab a brand new 4.0 and start the mileage climb anew.

    Thank you for your service. If we lived in the same city, I would love to be the caretaker (battery tender) for you.
