I am a Ham radio operator. Can I use the AUX in my 2011 Tacoma as speaker output for my radio with a the cord plugged in to the radio output and the other end plugged into the Aux. Or in the Aux just for Ipods and so on??? If I can use it, stereo or mono plugs on the end.

    John:confused:

Hi ranger-I think it would be fine to do that, run mono plugs to aux-but doublecheck what the max input to the truck unit is-set and forget the volume on the ham rig (safe would be about a third) and do volume with the truck unit:) You ham rig's output should be around 2-5 watts so it won't be too harmful as input.

Most of the time the transmit power out of the radio to the antenna is going to be 10 to 25 watts. Was thinking it would work like the external speaker I have attached to the radio now??? Don't want to mess the speakers up but thought it would sound better than the 3 inch mono speaker I am using.

Actually I was referring to your audio output from the ham rig, not your transmitter:) Just run a plug from your EXT speaker jack on the rig, to a single-to dual mono's jack, to the aux in terminals of the truck unit. It will be fantastic to have ham audio through your truck stereo! Much better to hear over road noise. A bonus would be if your truck stereo had two setting preferences, so you could set the aux to "voice comm" (bass off and mid/treble maxxed)
    you need this

Hey I didn't see this till now-that's great ranger:) glad it worked out! Now you can tailor that audio for voicecomm and have a real sweet HF mobile situation.

Just got back from my Vietnam Security Police reunion yesterday. The cable works good. Not having to reach down to the radio is a plus especially at 70 MPH.

Already there, no war stories yet. Have quite a few because I was there in 1968 when they tried to blow up the WHOLE country. Seemed like they followed my unit all over the place. Phan Rang, TSN, and Pleiku.

Holy crap what a tour! Well like I said, honored to know you and good to have you in here man! Also there are a few hams on this board you may run into-the only time I see them is when they pop in to help a kid with a CB setup:D
