Yes this truck is 28 years old. Some Tacoma frames can't even last 6 years. I'm pretty sure my truck will do just fine.

    Most garage queens do.

Since the mileage averages about 2k miles a year I can't imagine it suffering too much from use. Rubber seals, bushings, hoses and brittle plastics would be your biggest worries.

It hasn't been too bad. Just a minor hiccup when the original voltage regulator on the truck went bad and it compromised the alternator to a point. It still ran but if the AC or headlights were on in the car, it'd start draining the battery.

I noticed the last voltage regulator Toyota made by the end of the truck's run had an updated part number and it was shared with the Pick-Up made for North America. So I went to my Toyota dealer and had the part the following day.

As for alternator, I went through a company called Rare Electricals which makes alternators for the Hilux. I actually got it in under a week since they have a shop in Atlanta. My guess is that particular shop ships out to Hilux's in Central America, South America, and parts of the Carribean.

All in all, I expected some hiccups with a 28 year old truck. Also, so far, parts access is better than I expected.

Drive that truck down to your Toyota dealer and flex.
