Got my baby back from having the frame replaced. Had some 5100’s put on too.

My frame is getting replaced soon and I'm interested in the 5100's. I sorry for a dumb question but will you guys enlighten me on these shocks please. I have a 2005 Regular Cab 4wd. I may be wrong (sorry) but do I understand these shocks will lift my truck depending on which setting they are on? I'm sorry for not knowing much about the 5100's. Are the 5100's a lot more expensive than the factory shocks? Thanks for any info!

Looking good OP! Which setting do you have your 5100s on?
That is correct. 5100s are adjustable shocks that are made to work with your factory springs. They have 4 notches you can set them at: 0, .085, 1.75, and 2". It has been noted several times that the 2.5" seeing rides a rough compared to the others.
Also, you can pair 5100s with aftermarket springs (old man emu and eibach are commonly used), at the 0" setting and achieve lift without preloading the springs

Keep in mind, the 5100's will only lift the front.

Take measurements from center of hub, to bottom of fender, and determine what you want for lift. I think you may get a little more lift than an Access, or Double Cab, which would normally get ~1" from the .85" setting, and ~2" from the 1.75" setting. See what you need for the back versus the front, and go from there. Many who look to level their truck will use the .85" setting, and not have to do anything to the rear.

Some, (me included) have used the 1.75" setting, and then added an AAL (Add-A-Leaf) to the rear to lift that as well. I found mine was slightly nose high at that setting, with no lift in the rear.

Never understood why you’d want the front lifted higher than the rear with those 5100, seeing as the front are adjustable but the rear ones are not

Do they replace the lower control arms when they do the frame, or did you have it replaced?

It's included in the frame swap.

I got a new frame, lower control arms, new brake lines, and went from a three leaf pack to a four leaf pack. Total bill was $15,800, I paid $.00, gotta love Toyoto. Chevy would have told me to take my 05 and .....!

Pretty much a ditto for me. Total bill, including rental was roughly the same IIRC.

I am also getting new leaf springs that will have 4 leafs instead of the 3 leafs that i currently have. Will an extra leaf make my truck sit higher in the back than it does right now? I don't know why I have that idea in my head. So if it does lift the back can the 5100's be set to level my truck? I had an 85 Chevy Short Wheel Base when i was 16 that set low in the front and higher in the back and i really don't like that look anymore. Thanks for any help!!

The only way it will sit higher in the back, is if your current leafs are sagging noticeably. When I got mine replaced (with the frame swap) I measured before, and after, and there was no difference in height between my 10 year old 2+1's, and the new 3+1's.

Likely the reason you have the idea that you will gain height is the same reason I did. Years ago (under warranty) there was a TSB that gave you beefier leafs (most reported gaining ~1" in height) if you went in complaining about the back being too soft/bottoming out. The current replacements are not the same ones.

OP, what dealer did your frame swap? I’m on the list to get mine done and just curious. Sounds like you had a good experience.
