Got my clutch replaced and now its like driving a massage chair...

So I recently got my clutch and universal joints replaced at my local Toyota dealership because they needed to be replaced. Before I had the repairs done, my truck drove fine (except for the clutch slipping occasionally). After I picked my truck up from the dealership, I noticed that something was not right. It felt like the back tires were out of sync and completely out of balance. This produced a lot of vibration and noise starting at 48 mph and would get worse the faster I drove. I brought the truck back to the dealership the very next day and after a few more hours at the dealership, they reported that they "rotated the drive shaft 180 degrees." I do not know if this means they put it in backwards or upside-down, but my truck drove a lot better, but still not perfect. When I get the truck out on the highway, it still feels like something is out of balance because it still vibrates and makes noises, and I can really only compare it to like being in a massage chair on a very low setting. I experimented last night out on the highway and the vibrations would go away when I put the clutch in at highway speed. I would like to get some opinions before I take the truck to the dealership as to what it might be.

 

Drive shafts are balanced and on some cars, need to be marked and installed in the same same splines they came out of. Didn't know this was the case on Toyotas.

It goes away when you depress the clutch because the driveshaft slows. (I think)

 

The propeller shaft is connected to the rear axle through the differential. When you depress the clutch the shaft is still turning at the same speed until you slow down.

I wonder if they centered the friction plate properly when they installed it.

 

Sounds like they screwed up the clutch install, when you press the pedal in out on the highway and the vibes go away seems to make it a cut and dry case.

 

Take the truck up to the speed when you feel the vibration .Select neutral and coast . do you feel the vibration ?
Take the truck up to the speed when you feel the vibration . Select neutral and shut truck off and coast . do you still feel the vibration ?

 

I wouldn't worry about it. Take it back and get what you paid for. I would also insist on a loaner until it is repaired.

 

They replaced the u-joints? sounds like they messed one or more up and that's where your getting the vibs from, which is theoretically is the only answer cause (now follow me) the fly wheel is centered on the crankshaft, the pressure plate is bolted to the fly wheel, the friction disc rides on the input shaft of the trans, there fore everything before the trans should be balanced,,, so any vibs should be down stream.

 

If the clutch disc was not centered the pressure plate would not align and the transmission would not go through the center hub. So no.

 

Both yokes on the drive shaft are supposed to be in the same position on the drive shart. Not rotated 180*. I've always made sure that all the yokes are in time. Tranny yoke would be in same position as rear-end yoke when putting them back in
